Finding a math teacher can be stressful. You know math is important, and you want your kid to be successful!

It's important to have peace of mind knowing you set your kid up for a bright future.

Here's our top three tips for finding a top-tier math teacher.

🚀Make sure mindset is addressed. A growth mindset is vital for learning, especially math. If the teacher can model and teach mindset, your student will learn so much more!

🌟Make sure the teacher has experience with your age group. Teaching is a skill that takes time to master, so the more experience, the better!

👀Watch for "more of the same." Lots of big box math companies offer worksheets with support if students need it. That will not help your students gain ground. If support for worksheets worked, you wouldn't want a tutor for your student.

Has your child ever made up a sickness to avoid school?

Called you from school crying because they didn't want to be there any more?

Came home and told you how they were bullied or made fun of?

These types of scenarios are common in school. For many of our students, the school system is completely broken.

This often means your student isn't learning and is falling behind.

There is hope! When it comes to middle school math, we got you! Join our parent group of FB for ideas and support (link in comments).

DM us or comment questions--we are here to help!

Most of all, remember the system is broken.

You're not broken.

Is the idea of middle school next year scary......
....it's scary for lots of parents! It's a tough time for many students and parents. One of the best things you can do for your fifth grader is build resilience starting now.

💪Work on the idea of a growth mindset

🚀 Give your child opportunities to learn something new and point out how much they are learning

👏 Tell them stories about hard things you've done and how you worked through it

We are opening NEW fifth grade learning groups to teach the big ideas in 6th grade math. That way, your learner can feel confident as a learner in middle school math--that will propel your learner the way through middle school!

Feel like the school system doesn't care...
...
about your child? This message is for you!

In many ways, our public school system does our kids' massive disservice and often times causes trauma to our children.

*The system overloads teachers, which makes teaching impossible.

*The system uses outdated methods and irrelevant curricula.

As a parent, you may be painfully aware of the trauma but wonder what to do about it. That's a tough place to be as a parent.

Here are two things you can do to help your child.

1. Realize the system is broken, not your child. Every child can learn at high levels. Not being successful in a broken system is no reflection of your child or your parenting. Period.

2. Help your child get into experiences where they can be successful at learning something new. This could be a lesson or activity. That way, your child can understand that their ability to learn is not the problem.

This is not an easy time to be a parent or a student, and support helps! If you'd like support, don't be afraid to reach out.
