It looked iffy for aurora viewing with overcast skies last night, plus it was a work night so I decided to skip going out. Around midnight I woke up and decided to see if my photography peeps had come up with anything and I discovered a lot of high-fives, chest bumping and beautiful northern light photos. I put the phone down and tried to go back to sleep, but adrenaline was coursing through my veins so I got up and headed into the cold darkness. First stop was my local lake beach to verify the aurora was still happening, and when the camera showed a bunch of red and pink in the sky I moved on to the church in Parsonsfield for this image.

Portland’s beautiful this time of year
After shooting the Christmas tree yesterday morning I made a quick stop at Wharf Street in the Old Port, only to find the city sanitation crew there taking care of emptying the dumpsters. Bad timing, but after about five minutes they were hopping back into the truck and motored out of the alleyway. The puddles calmed down very quickly and I was able to strategically place the lamp reflections just as the rain/snow began again.
