Thank you for the video service. 🌷
From way down yonder in New Orleans our hearts are with you St. Mark's. Stay low. Stay safe.
As of last week, St. Mark’s now has a permanent home. Our growing parish family has purchased the historic Union Church in Port Royal, SC, after 9 years of worshipping there. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and will be well cared for by the people of St. Mark’s! Come and see!
.
Please consider supporting those young people who have organized "March for Our Lives" right in the Beaufort/Port Royal area! They are forming behind the former Lady's Island Cinema (turn off Sea Island Parkway toward Beaufort H.S.) to march across the Woods Bridge for a rally in Chambers Park. It starts at 10:00 TODAY, March 24th. If you are unable to march, meet them at the park. These people are our blessings and our future. Thank God for them.
Last Sunday, Fr. Roy spoke to the parish about our need to ACT in response to hatred--act with love, certainly, but act nevertheless. A story of love in action:
Yesterday evening, family and I attended the Racial Harmony Bowling event at Beaufort's Community Bowling Center; the center is operated by Love House Ministries for the benefit of the Beaufort community. Last Saturday night, some poor soul sprayed graffiti on the center; the photo went viral. The pastors who operate the center decided that those unfortunate words presented a chance to show love--and organized the event. WELL--it looked as if half of Beaufort showed up (including a bunch from St. Mark's!)--bowling, talking, hanging out, kids bouncing, hot dogs, singing--all ages, shapes, sizes, races spilling out into the parking lot--sharing the love. THANK YOU, everyone, with special thanks to the guy with the spray paint--you gave us a special day we'll always remember.

An inclusive fellowship called by God, through Christ, to love and serve the world. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church worships in historic Union Church at 1004 11th St., with offices a half block away at 1110A Paris Ave.

Our mailing address is P.O. Box 761, Port Royal, SC 29935. As a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, we are part of The Episcopal Church, U.S., which in turn is part of the world-wide Anglican Communion. We were founded by a small group in 2003. Our Rector is the Rev. Roy Tripp. In a world in which our understanding of God's love is still unfolding, we at St. Mark's are a diverse, welcoming, Christ-centered community engaged in ministry always shaped by The Episcopal Church's example of love and service for all throughout the world. With a focus on outreach, St. Mark’s members work as hands-on volunteers in the community with various groups, including Family Promise of Beaufort County, HELP of Beaufort, Thumbs Up, Hopeful Horizons, Habitat for Humanity, CAPA, Under One Roof, and the Free Medical Clinic, while also providing financial support worldwide through support of Episcopal Relief & Development.

St. Mark's Parish Retreat is Oct. 22-24.

Kanuga is featured in this article about Hendersonville published by Leisure Group Travel, which caters to religious and other group travel planners. #kanuga #hendersonvillenc Ride Kanuga

"For religious, student, family reunion and outdoors-minded groups looking for a special place to stay, Kanuga Conference Center offers a leafy refuge just five miles from downtown Hendersonville. Affiliated with the Episcopal Church, this historic conference, retreat and camp center, established in 1928, is open to all.

Accommodations at Kanuga Conference Center include 43 one- to six-bedroom cottages and a 61-room lakeside inn.

Accommodations on the wooded, 1,400-acre campus include a 61-room lakeside inn (with three dining rooms), seven guest houses, two dormitory-style buildings and 43 one- to six-bedroom cottages. Each cottage features a covered porch and living room with a fireplace; most bedrooms have two beds and a private or shared bath.

Guests can go swimming, fishing and canoeing at Kanuga Lake, and more than 20 miles of hiking trails thread the surrounding mountains. The center also has an archery range, tennis courts, a gymnasium, climbing tower and ropes courses. A new mountain bike course, operated by Ride Kanuga, opened in summer of 2020.

Church groups at Kanuga can make use of the Chapel of Transfiguration (seating 250), outdoor chapels and a variety of meeting spaces. And there’s a meditation labyrinth."

I thank God for all of the people who have made the COVID vaccines possible and available. I’m thankful to have received my first shot - one more to go!

The Episcopal Public Policy Network has compiled a detailed COVID Vaccine Toolkit with ideas and educational resources to help your local Episcopal Church work with the government to help end this pandemic. Churches and church leaders (lay and ordained) can serve as important trusted bridges between public health officials and congregations.

Find the toolkit on The Episcopal Church website at https://www.episcopalchurch.org/ministries/office-government-relations/covid-vaccine-toolkit/

Our Story

In a world in which our understanding of God's love is still unfolding, we at St. Mark's are a diverse, welcoming, Christ-centered community engaged in ministry always shaped by the Episcopal Church's example of love and service for all throughout the world. With a focus on outreach, St. Mark’s members work as hands-on volunteers in the community with Family Promise of Beaufort, HELP, Habitat for Humanity, Phoebe’s Closet, and the Free Medical Clinic. Through the Diocese, we send volunteers and financial aid to two schools in the Dominican Republic. We co-sponsor community programs such as Trunk or Treat in Port Royal and Walk for Water.

In 2003 it had become clear that there was need for a more inclusive worship option for those who chose to continue in the path of the Episcopal Church, as distinct from other parishes in the area. St. Mark’s began with a group that met in members’ homes for Bible Study, discussion and Evening Prayer or Eucharist (if a celebrant was available).

In November 2009, we moved to the historic Union Church in Port Royal where we continue to meet Sundays with additional services on Wednesdays and special days. In August 2018 we purchased Union Church from the Town of Port Royal. Our plans are to expand the building (in keeping with its Historic Register designation), to provide seating for an additional 60 congregants, a new sacristy and new restrooms.

We also rent St. Mark’s Center, a half block from Union Church at 1004A Paris Ave, which serves as administrative office space, as well as space for Christian Education and fellowship activities.
