All In T-shirts available to order at www.tgs-art.com/all-in-pontiac-t-shirts/ Proceeds to benefit small businesses in the Pontiac area that are negatively effected by the pandemic shut down.

04/14/2020

I started to write a post about how I am struggling as a small business owner because I had to temporarily close to the public during the pandemic shut down. But then I started thinking about all of the other small businesses around that are feeling the same pain. Hair dressers, boutiques, gift stores, designers, and other service and small shop people that seem to be forgotten in all of the coverage. I know that we are "all in this together" but that doesn't make this any easier. If anything, it makes it harder. Because I am trying to do whatever I can to keep my business going and just trying to pay bills, but then I feel bad for all of you other businesses that are trying to do the same. We have had to lay off employees that we feel are family and close our doors to the customers that we consider friends. It's hard.

We still don't qualify for any unemployment from the State of Illinois - I checked their website again today and it still says that federal money is coming for us, but they haven't figured out how to do it yet. So no help there yet.

We might qualify for the PPP Loan to be used for operating expenses and to pay employees, but it is only a loan that we have to pay back. Yes, it MIGHT be forgiven in 6 months, IF everything goes right, but there are no guarantees. Even if we qualify for the loan, will we be able to pay it back starting in six months? What if business isn't back to "normal" by then? Where are we going to come up with the payments?

I am thinking about all of you out there and hoping we can make it through this and come out stronger on the other side.

We are all trying to get by, so like many of you, I have been designing and making face masks for the public (different than the ones for medical use). My first batch is available for sale at County Market in Pontiac, because I can't technically open to sell them to any of you. I want to thank County Market for allowing me to have them available there since they are an essential business and can be open. I know other people are offering them as well and I encourage everyone to support any of us making masks.

Since we don't know how much longer this is going to last, all we can do is encourage each other to keep trying. We can and WILL get through this. Thank you for listening to my rant.

PS. I am still working every day on projects for customers. I just don't have the doors open and am only here until I get the daily work done. Some days that is before noon, some days it is until 5. If you need something, please feel free to call and leave a message or send me an email. I promise I will call or email you back and do whatever I can to help you out if it is possible.

The General Store is NOT closing.

However, due to the COVID-19 situation, I have decided to temporarily close the retail store in order to encourage social distancing that will help to prevent the spread of the virus.

This means that you will not be able to walk in without an appointment. It does mean that I will continue to work and make items for you, your business, club, team or organization. You will have to make an appointment to pick up your items.

Starting tomorrow, you can contact me by phone, email or text.

You can call the store at 815-844-3983. Leave a message if I don't answer. It just means I am busy trying to get someone's order ready and will call you back as soon as I have a moment.

You can email [email protected] and I will respond as soon as I have a chance.

If you prefer to text, we do have a store cell phone that you can text: 815-842-7563. This number is for texting ONLY. I will not answer the cell phone and will probably not see any phone messages, but I will respond to texts as soon as I can.

I plan to continue to work to make your items as I have done for the past 18 years. I can't wait for everything to get back to normal when you can come in again and browse, chat and create with me!

I do have some older family members and a lot of valued customers that I just do not want to put at risk.

My thoughts go out to all of the people who are and will be directly affected by the virus, whether because you get sick or have to care for the sick. I plan to do my part to not spread the virus and hope that everyone else does the same.

I realize in this unusual time that we are all trying to cope and adjust. I am not giving up on our community and I hope that you won't either. We can pull through this. We all just need to make some sacrifices right now so that we can get back to normal.
