Out of 16 entries, 1st Place Medium Kitchen in the 's design competition went to Danee's Lake Lucy Luxe kitchen project!

This client loved her home, especially the oversized, existing maple millwork, but was dissatisfied with the small floor plan and lack of storage in the kitchen. In addition to functional needs, this client was looking for a showstopping design that would add wow factor to her home. The end result is a stunning kitchen worthy of a magazine with a design perfectly tailored to this unique home!

I am very thankful to Studio M. Once construction started, we had to make a change to the original design when the wall to the old dining room wasn’t able to come down completely. My kitchen & bath designer is an expert in all areas and made the whole process so much less stressful, I knew that I could trust her.

Did you know that the appearance of breakfast nooks in kitchens symbolized a shift in American culture?

The 1920’s and 1930’s were the start of the change from a kitchen being a “woman’s workspace” to a place of both labor and leisure. We started to see this shift through the incorporation of breakfast nooks in kitchen designs during this era. A little kitchen recess, often with two built-in benches and a table, breakfast nooks were the perfect gathering places for families throughout the day - not just in the morning.

What design trends do you hope to never see again?

Popular in the 1940's, tile countertops have been creeping back into some ultra-trendy designs recently. While they are fun, they are just too impractical to ever become mainstream again.
