A special "thank you" to Woodland Hills Church of Christ for being the touchstone for people in need. The food, water, totes, hugs and prayers were a blessing to many. Thank you to the American Red Cross - Serving Iowa and Polk County Iowa for providing counseling and organizing volunteers as well as emergency services. Thank you to Porter Do It Best Hardware & Rental for the large donation and delivery of totes; Hy-Vee, Hy-Vee, Fareway Stores Altoona and Fareway Stores Pleasant Hill for the food prep and delivery throughout the week/weekend; Toad Valley Golf Course, Fireside Altoona, The Big Steer, Mimi's Sweet Cakes & Bakes, Kelly George Turf & Irrigation, Over the Top and Great Caterers of Iowa for providing hot meals & sweet treats; Morgan’s for donating ice, Target Altoona for collecting donations and delivering items; Altoona Kids Cafe for providing immediate assistance to the families of this community; Lutheran Church of the Cross, Rising Sun Church of Christ, Runnells Christian Church, City of Runnells, Southeast Polk Family Church, Caring Hands Outreach Center, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach for collecting donations, providing resources, friendly faces and tender outreach. Thank you to MidAmerican Energy for being the Rock Stars you are in restoring power as quickly as you could so the recovery could begin.
Thank you to the leadership, teachers and staff at Southeast Polk Community School District for providing a sense of normal for your students who are affected by the loss and devastation of their homes.
Thank you to Metro Waste Authority for providing resources for the disposal of all the debris.
To all the individuals and families that donated their time and their financial gifts - holy cow, you have helped so many, and we thank you.
Thank you to all who prayed over this community from the onset and now through the recovery - you are the guiding light in tragedy.

- Gift card donations and monetary gifts can be DROPPED OFF at the Altoona Area Chamber of Commerce, 119 2nd Street SE in Olde Town Altoona between the hours of 9am-5pm Mon-Fri. Please make checks out to Altoona Kids Cafe or you can donate online at https://www.classy.org/give/41163/ #!/donation/checkout. Funds received will go directly to the disaster effort.

- The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program now available to tornado survivors in Polk County. Households in Jasper, Polk and Warren counties experiencing losses of personal property or having structural damage to their personal residence as a result of severe weather on March 5, 2022 may apply for assistance by calling IMPACT at 515-518-4770 or emailing IMPACT at [email protected]. The grant application and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Human Services website at https://dhs.iowa.gov/disaster-assistance-programs. Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim.

Hyvee will also be cooking in the parking lot and distributing food to the residents, responders, and clean-up crews that are impacted by the tornado. ❤🙏
