NO GHOST TOWN IN BAMENDA
The Divisional Officer (DO) of Mbouda organized a public awareness campaign to inform the population about the urgent need to reopen their businesses.
"Where are those advocating for ghost towns?
At least we engage in dialogue with you," he stated. Meanwhile, a local trader from the Mbouda market revealed to MMI that this was their first encounter with the DO, marking an unprecedented public appearance by the local administrator in this district.

Cameroon: A Rise in Tax Revenue Masks Worrying Weaknesses
At first glance, the figures published by Cameroon's Ministry of Finance for the first quarter of 2025 seem positive: tax revenues show an increase of 2.3%, reaching 997.7 billion CFA francs. However, this slight increase, presented as the result of "resilient tax mobilization," masks a more mixed reality. In a context of declining oil revenues, this apparent performance deserves closer examination, as it reveals worrying structural imbalances for the Cameroonian economy.
Behind the displayed optimism lies a significant decline of 4.8% in actual taxes and duties. This drop, officially attributed to a "slowdown in certain economic activities" and "persistent collection difficulties in some sectors," raises questions about the real health of the productive sector. As economist Laurice Serge Eteki notes, this contraction could have been more severe without the compensatory rebound from customs duties and non-tax revenues. This observation raises questions about the solidity of the economic base outside the extractive sector... Read more here π

Global Solidarity Demonstrated as Cameroon's 'Ghost Town' Strike Begins π³π³π³
A coordinated international response is poised to challenge Cameroon's long-standing regime as a massive three-day national 'Ghost Town' strike commences within the country tomorrow.
In a show of solidarity with citizens participating in the nationwide shutdown called by Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Cameroonian diaspora in the UK is organizing a major demonstration: The UK is organizing one tomorrow, Monday, November 3rd, at 2:00 PM at the Cameroon High Commission, 84 Holland Park, London W11 3SB.
The planned London action follows a weekend of widespread and vocal protests across the United States and France, where Cameroonian communities staged demonstrations in major cities, including Washington D.C. and Paris, to protest the disputed election results and the violent repression of dissent.
The Ghost Town is a non-violent civil disobedience tactic urging Cameroonians to stay home, paralyze the economy to protest the widely disputed re-election of 92-year-old Paul Biya and his 43-year rule.
The London protest, according to the organizers, aims to pressure the international community, particularly the UK government, to take a stronger stance against the reported electoral fraud and human rights abuses in Cameroon.
