Prelude to my Twilight

Hi all,

Hope you all had a great holiday season. I wanted to share a little behind the scenes about how Blue Pill came to life, because this one really took a journey.

A little over a year before it came out, someone sent me the very first version of the track. It was just a synth melody and some electric drums. I remember hearing it for the first time and instantly loving the vibe. I recorded a couple guitars layers, and a lead guitar and sent it back.

Fast forward a year… that unfinished song kept popping into my mind. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to it. So I opened the session again and let myself explore.
What if I added more guitars?
What if I brought in real drums?
What about a piano?

I ended up doing all of it. The very first sound you hear that dreamy, floating texture is actually a reversed arpeggiated piano. It gave the track this ethereal quality that finally felt right.

Once the mix was done, I sent it back to the original collaborator and got their blessing. Sometimes songs take years to find their final form, and this one definitely did.

Every now and then I like to share the backstory behind some of these songs. Today’s one is especially meaningful to me. The very first riff was written and recorded a year ago tomorrow, and the inspiration behind it came into the world that same day.

Sometimes when I write, it feels like I’m just a conduit this was one of those songs.

There was something about beginnings, that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I locked in on it and spent the next couple of weeks building out every part until it finally felt complete.

And when it was done? There was only one name it could have. It had to carry the name of what inspired it in the first place.

I’ve been wanting to share more about where some of these songs come from.

This one was actually arranged by Vanessa Burrows I played her the open acoustic, and then asked what sounds should live around it. She would hum ideas or describe them, and I’d play them back until it felt right. Piece by piece, she guided me through it.

The remix version is me revisiting that process and reshaping it into a version I assembled myself. It’s both a tribute to how it started and a way of putting my own hands back on it.
