Community Heritage: Leveraging Place-Based Resources in the Classroom helps educators make learning more meaningful by connecting students with the history, stories, people, and places that surround them. Using Pittsburgh and its diverse neighborhoods as a case study, this course explores ways to incorporate local heritage and community resources into social studies, science, and other curriculum areas.

Each of the AIU's asynchronous CPE courses counts as 90 Act 48 hours and as 3 credits towards Level II Certification. Educators can apply up to 18 CPE credits towards a Master's equivalency.

Achievement assessments continue to show that middle and high school students struggle to read and comprehend texts proficiently. In this session of "Supporting Secondary Readers," educators will learn about the science behind secondary literacy development and how to translate the evidence base into their classrooms. Participants will also learn about intervention structures and supports that can benefit struggling secondary readers.

The Reading Achievement Center's K-3 Reading Apprenticeship Model equips educators with the knowledge and practical strategies to strengthen reading instruction through comprehensive, research-based professional learning.

Over 12 in-person sessions at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, participants will explore reading pedagogy, theory, research, and proven instructional practices while meeting PDE Chapter 49 Structured Literacy requirements.

More than 100 educators, mental health professionals, advocates and community leaders came together this week at the University of Pittsburgh for the Southwest Pennsylvania Youth Mental Health Summit.
