Pittsburgh Slim & The Bawl Slant: Falling (2023) - mini-review

US artist Pittsburgh Slim and Swedish band The Bawl Slant are out with the collaborative EP "Falling", and hard rock is the style explored on this production. While this is a collaboration between a rapper and a hard rock band, my impression (which obviously could be erroneous) is that the creative direction here has been set by the latter. The songs here ebb and flow between a stripped down variety of rock and a more bombastic variety of hard rock, with the former featuring spoken vocals and the latter features regular lead vocals appropriate to the hard rock setting. The variety of both the stripped down rock and the hard rock explored here is of a type and character I'd sort under the grunge moniker, with the stripped down sections coming across as closer to acoustic grunge and the harder sections being more in line with the more bombastic varieties of regular grunge. The songs in general actually reminded me ever so slightly about Nirvana, who did have some songs that used the ebb and flow between the stripped down and the powerful in some of their songs, and the overall mood and atmosphere present on this EP also gave me associations in that direction. Due to that, my main impression is that this is a production that will have grunge fans as it's main audience, and then those who tend to enjoy bands like Nirvana first and foremost.
