We’re proud stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors and honor the profound courage of q***r refugees.

Around the world, a growing number of individuals must flee their home countries to escape persecution based on their sexuality or gender identity. During migration, q***r refugees are also disproportionately vulnerable to violence and discrimination in transit countries & while awaiting asylum.

There is a long way to go in offering true sanctuary. Currently, only 1 in 4 host countries formally grant asylum based on LGBTQ+ persecution.

At Hello Neighbor, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, welcome, and free in their home. Today and every day, we celebrate our LGBTQ+ community the fight for a safer, more inclusive world for all.

Our Preferred Communities GAPS team is accepting referrals for new clients.

This program is designed to help new neighbors build stability through short-term, light-touch case management for a typical duration of three months. The GAPS team can connects clients to community resources, such as affordable housing opportunities, utility CAP programs, and neighborhood food banks, and can also provide limited financial support.

Anyone who is ORR-eligible can enroll in this program (such as Refugees, SIVs, and those with TPS or parole status).

2025 brought challenge, uncertainty, and constant change, but we are so proud to look back at how we continued to grow and stand up for our new neighbors through it all.

Since our founding in 2017, we have provided support to over 1,500 refugees and immigrants from more than 26 countries of origin, helping...

We’re excited to announce the launch of our Hilltop Legal Initiative: a pilot collaboration between the Hilltop Empowerment Collective and Hello Neighbor to bring Hello Neighbor’s legal services to the Hilltop neighborhoods. Our goal is to:

🧡 maintain a consistent, visible presence through free immigration legal clinics that offer support and deepen relationships with the community
💛 provide targeted Know Your Rights and Upstander training to clients and partners; and
💚 strengthen our capacity to serve more individuals and families in different areas around Pittsburgh.

We will be in Hilltop through July 2026 and are excited to say hello! 👋

📚 We're enrolling new students for our summer semester of English as a New Language classes! We offer beginner level in-person courses for all English language-learners 18 years old and over. The semester runs from May 25 - August 22. For more information or to register please contact Ali at [email protected].

☀️ Our annual potluck has evolved into Hello Neighbor Community Day: a summertime block party with food, family activities, and live performances for everyone in our neighborhood! Join new neighbors, community supporters, friends, and families on Sunday, June 14 from 1–4 p.m. for an afternoon of connection, celebration, and fun.

As this event has grown over the years, we’ve reimagined it to better reflect our community. In light of recent SNAP benefit cuts impacting many families, we are no longer asking attendees to bring food. Instead, Hello Neighbor will provide a welcoming, inclusive experience where everyone can participate fully.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. For the safety of all attendees, the event location will be shared with registered guests one week in advance.

This past weekend, we celebrated the mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers in Hello Neighbor’s Little Neighbors and Smart Start programs with a joyful afternoon of food, music, crafts, and connection 💐

Families came together to share a meal, enjoy children’s activities, and celebrate the love and resilience of the caregivers who support our community every day. Children created handmade bouquets and cards for their moms, making the afternoon especially meaningful for our Little Neighbors and Smart Start families.

Thank you to the Latin American Cultural Center for welcoming us into your beautiful space, Scent with Love for donating flowers for children to create bouquets for their moms, McKline Visual Media for capturing these special moments, and Cakes4Care for providing delicious desserts for our community.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this celebration so special 💛

Mother’s Day is coming up, and we’re excited to host our Mother’s Day event for clients to celebrate the resilient mothers and caregivers in our community. But for us, support for parents continues year round. Here are some of the ways we help new neighbors navigate parenthood every day:

🍼 Smart Start: Comprehensive support for pregnancy and postpartum, including appointment accompaniment and essential supplies.
🐣 Little Neighbors: Dedicated programming for families with young children to foster community and play.
💛 A Welcoming Space: Our office features a dedicated lactation room, providing dignity and comfort for nursing parents.
📗 Accessible Learning: We offer free in-office childcare for parents in our English language classes to reduce barriers to education.

We’re honored to walk alongside our neighbors and be part of their journeys navigating parenthood in their new home. 💗
