Picked on this ‘77 kz400 to get running and riding. Question is, should I leave the homemade patina or paint it something new?

We haven’t posted in quite some time, but quarantine has provided a lot of time to wrench, ride, and reflect. It’s important to realize that everyone is fighting different battles, and just because a problem doesn’t impact you does not mean you can dismiss it as fake or invalid.

It could be fear stemming from the attacks on our black and minority communities, anxiety regarding the safety of our families and ourselves from the virus, depression from lack of social contact, financial uncertainty due to layoffs and shortage of pay, or a combination of all these and many others. We need each other now more than ever, to stand together and support one another through all the collective problems we face.

It is valid to feel fearful and uncertain of what the future holds, and we need to keep calm, think critically, and educate ourselves. We need to ensure we treat people with dignity and respect, all the while fighting off hateful ideas and misinformation.

It’s time to unite no matter our differences, take care of each other, and continue to push forward and create a superior “normal.”

Here are a few bikes I’ve been working on and riding, a 1972 Harley Electra glide (feat. Loki), a 1972 CB350 with a 450 motor, my trusty 1992 Sportster, and my tough 2012 KLR. Each have had their challenges, but all have provided an education and entertainment. I encourage everyone to reflect, learn something new, and as always, get out and ride.

Motorcycle Monday: In 1968, the motorcycle market was changed forever with the introduction of the Yamaha DT-1.

During that time, there was no light weight, inexpensive, and available motorcycle to ride on and off road.

The DT-1 allowed many people to get into riding motorcycles, and remains a popular bike to this day.
