When we grow lettuce this good I crave Caesar salad. I like to make the dressing from scratch with @bonappetitmag’s recipe and homemade croutons. I topped this one off with some grilled chicken.
You can get some at our farm stand and at @localfoodsplymouth.nh. 💚

It’s corn planting day and I received some lovely signs from my parents. My dad sends me golf balls and my mom’s number is 3. Lots of love is going into this field from this physical plane and beyond. Not to mention how much love went into growing last years crop, which is where this seed came from! Now let’s see if the animals will cooperate! 😉

The day I left for a trip to Sedona our greenhouses blew apart. Matt has been piecing one back together while I’ve been away. This is farming, this is life, you win some and you lose some, but no matter what, we keep trucking along. Luckily our starts inside were practically untouched. We will be taking extra measures to try and prevent this from happening in the future. If anyone out there knows of some good greenhouse anchors, I’d love to know. I’m exploring different options right now. Swipe for a nice peek of Sedona!

Our friend Justin Metcalf of Metcalf Mills has designed a stone mill that will be useful for home use and community use that is compact and produces a better quality product. We would love to have one of these someday! Check out his kickstarter and watch the video at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/metcalfmills/the-renaissance-of-the-grain-mill/description

We are so excited to start harvesting our Abenaki Calais Flint Corn! We managed to keep the crows and the bears out this year (we lost our whole crop to bears last year). We are hanging them in the barn to finish drying and then we will be grinding them into cornmeal and grits. We’ve put some out on the farm stand for Fall decorations as well! This harvest will take a while since we do it all by hand, but it will be so worth it! I can already taste my beans and cornbread! 😋
This variety of corn was known to survive the bizarre year without a Summer of 1816 where temperatures seemed to turn back to Winter after Spring. The strange weather was caused by the eruption of an enormous volcano in the Indian Ocean. This corn kept some people from starving. It’s a hardy variety appropriate for this short New England growing season.

Marianna Fishman from Local Foods Plymouth visited our farm and wrote about what we do. I teared up a little when I read it because I feel so seen! She does an excellent job expressing what it is that we want to share with people. Check out what she wrote!

If you’re in Piermont you can grab a bag of Wizard Mix potatoes at @robiefarm.
We are in the process of pulling in more Fall goodies and we will keep you updated. It’s an exciting year! 🍂🤗🍁

Wendy Town Wonder Salve is back in stock at the farm stand! This batch is made with our own Calendula flowers and a bit of lavender essential oil. This salve is great for moisturizing skin, relieving itchiness, burns, bug bites, and minor cuts & scrapes. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed growing and picking these flowers and making this salve, there’s lots of love in these little tins! 🤗

Harvesting King’s Kidney Beans!

We are so excited to start harvesting our King’s Kidney Beans! Matt built this pulley system so we can finish the drying process up in the barn loft. Using this thing makes you feel like a kid again! 😂

Our healing garden is blooming in full force now! I’m usually busy running around the farm but I do take moments to sit here. The other day I sat down and was rewarded with a little hummingbird show. He was zipping around drinking from all of the flowers. In that moment I was fully present and everything else melted away. Nature heals. Come have a seat.

If you didn’t already know, I love growing purple food. These Sequoia beans have an amazing flavor! They are a purple Romano type. I had a friend ship the seeds to me from Canada a couple of years ago because the company would not ship to the US. I started saving the seeds from them because they were hard to find. They are one of my favorites now, so I will continue to save the seed. Just a little story behind one of our many crops. PS we grow over 22 varieties of tomatoes. We love variety and seed saving! 🤪

We finally got big ones for ya! Come on down for these juicy beauts! 🍅

Photos from Wendy Town Farms's post 08/09/2021

A few veggies I’m really loving these day are our costato romanesco zucchini with its deep flavor, sprouting cauliflower, which has a hint of sweetness and cooks up faster than regular cauliflower, and Paracicaba sprouting broccoli, tastes just like broccoli, but with smaller looser heads and tender stems. It’s always nice to try something new!

08/05/2021

And it’s cabbage time! Sauerkraut, cole slaw, sautéed with a little bacon and a splash of apple cider vinegar, quartered and grilled, roasted, so many ways to enjoy these guys! 😋😋😋

We broke away from land for a night and got on our sea legs to catch a beautiful sunset on Salem Harbor and spend time with family. It was such a fun time and the sunset was incredible! 💖💖💖

08/03/2021

Found this guy this morning, I don’t know how I missed these! Glad I caught them just when they’re ready! We have cauliflower now! I can’t wait to roast this one up with some curry spices. 😋

Broccoli is coming in strong and it is sooooo good! Come get some this weekend! 🥦 🥦🥦

Photos from Wendy Town Farms's post 07/30/2021

When you visit the farm stand, feel free to take a moment to sit in our healing garden. These blooms brighten my day every time I take a minute to sit, breathe, and just soak them in. 😊

Things are ramping up on the farm! We’ve added carrots, broccoli, squash and zucchini, napa cabbage, kale, blueberries, all kinds of herbs, green beans, and more!

Summertime in the Kitchen Garden 💚

The corn has a nice view of Hog’s Back and Blueberry Mountains. We love hiking up to Blueberry. Anyone else? You can see our neighbors land from the top.
