Great news! As a part of my effort to move into some level of professional sports journalism I will be reopening the blog and devoting myself to full time coverage of the team starting in the next week with the goal of getting press credentials with Phoenix Rising Football Club by the beginning of next season. Look for content in the day before this weekend's match and I look forward to covering the Valley's only professional soccer club in their push to grab their 2nd USL Championship title!

Phoenix Rising Football Club's biggest young signing of the off-season was Guilio Doratiotto, who moved over from Juventus U-19 on a free transfer, and after setting down and beginning to play his game, has become a key part of head coach Danny Stone's starting XI, which came to a head this weekend when he powered home a game winning goal in the Round of 32 in the Us Open Cup against defending USL League One champion North Carolina FC.

AND THERE IT IS! 19 year old wonderkid Gullio Doratottio puts his first into the net with Phoenix Rising Football Club in the 111th minute of extra time! Renzo Zambrano's pinpoint pass from distance dropped perfectly to the foot of the Italian and former Juventus U-19 man, and he proceeeded to blast it in the back of the next and give Phoenix a 2-1 lead after they conceded in the 80th minute while both teams were playing with 10 men.

Gio's goal in the 111th comes with NCFC playing with only 9 players, and Phoenix with 10. Lawrence Wyke departed the match after picking up yellow cards in the 7th and 24th minutes, and NCFC's Paco Craig went for a straight red in the 40th that evened the players on the field at 10. Ezra Armstrong's challenge on Fuenmayor in the 94th minute seemed to be a little weak for a 2nd yellow, but it did meet the rules, albiet not as well as other calls. Regardless, there have been quite a few worse calls in the game, so NCFC's gonna just have to live with it. His poorly thought through challenge ended his US Open Cup and took the defending USL League One champs down to 9 men, which gave GD the perfect chance to pop one in from point blank range, sending Rising past the Round of 32 for the first time in franchise history. Their previous longest run was during the Arizona United SC years, where they lost 2-1 to the LA Galaxy in the Round of 32.

Phoenix Rising Football Club continues onto the Motor City to face Detroit City FC, one of the best teams in the East so far in 2024, a side with a 5-1-1 record that is good for 16 points and 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.

Phoenix Rising Football Club is coming off of a 1-1 draw against unbeaten Sacramento Republic FC and sits at 3w-2d-4L, good for 11 points and 6th in the USL West table. However, Phoenix has played better and better as the season has progressed, are unbeaten in six of their last eight matches, led by the league's #3 goalscorer, Remi Cabral, who has scored 6 times in the last 5 matches for PHX.
