Thank you to Ana Sanchez and the entire team at AASBO for hosting another incredible summer event. We especially enjoyed meeting new school business leaders, and learning about upcoming landscape design projects that call for artificial turf - from IPEMA certified playgrounds and surfacing to athletic fields and common areas and more. Our team of turf experts was on-site and happy to answer any questions, from early design and concept inspiration to the logistics of planning these massive school projects.

And we're sincerely grateful that we could connect with longtime friends in the Phoenix and Tucson construction industry throughout the event. It's an honor to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive local community.

Ask Mary: will pet turf smell in the summer?

Bad pet turf smells. Good pet turf drains. Dog urine is uric acid and does not rinse away with water alone, so the fix is drainage and the right infill that lets it flush straight through instead of sitting in the heat. Built that way, it stays fresh even in July.

Ask Mary: how long does artificial turf really last in the Arizona sun?

A quality install runs 10 to 20 years, even in our sun, because good turf is UV stabilized so it holds its color instead of fading out. The number that decides it is the base, not the blades. A rushed base is what cuts a lawn's life short. Ours is built to go the distance.

Ask Mary: can artificial turf help my dog's grass allergy?

If your dog chews their paws, has a red or inflamed belly, or keeps getting ear infections, a grass allergy might be behind it. Dogs react to grass pollen in the air and absorb it right through their skin and paws. It cannot be cured, but it can be managed, and cutting the exposure at home is a big part of that. Live grass in your own yard is a pollen source your dog walks through and rolls in every day. Swap it for artificial turf and that source is gone. Pollen still drifts in from around the neighborhood, so this is not a cure, but plenty of owners tell us the paw chewing eases up once their dog is off live grass. Pair it with your vet's plan and a quick rinse after walks.

Almost always it is the product or the install, not turf itself. The cheap stuff has a plastic shine and the wrong pile height, and a rushed crew leaves visible seams and thin infill. Choose a matte finish with the right specs and put a real crew on it, and your neighbors will argue about whether it is real.
