Twenty-five years, an FBI Ten Most Wanted listing, a $100,000 reward, and not one confirmed sighting. Not one.

On April 10, 2001, a house near 74th and Oak in south Scottsdale exploded. Firefighters found Mary Fisher and her two children inside, 12-year-old Brittney and 10-year-old Bobby. Robert Fisher and the family dog were gone. The last documented sighting of him is an ATM camera the night before, pulling $280 out of a machine in his wife’s Toyota 4Runner.

That 4Runner showed up more than a week later abandoned in the Tonto National Forest near Young, dog still alive next to it. Searchers went through the woods and a nearby cave and found nothing. Fisher was charged with three counts of first-degree and one count of arson, plus a federal unlawful flight charge. He has never been arrested and never been tried.

Here’s the part that will bother you. Investigators pulled a partial DNA profile off a ball cap and a coffee cup left in that SUV. They have never had a confirmed DNA sample from Fisher himself to compare it against. Twenty-five years and the single best forensic lead in the case is sitting there unusable.

He went on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted in June 2002 and came off in November 2021, not because it closed but because there was never a sighting solid enough to work. Scottsdale detectives still get one or two tips a week and they work it like he’s alive. He’d be 65 now.

Arizona’s very own is officially immortal.

Larry Fitzgerald gets enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 8 in Canton. Third overall pick in 2004, all 17 seasons in one uniform, 11 Pro Bowls, in on the first ballot. He never played anywhere else and he never had to.

Two days before that, the Cardinals open the entire NFL season because of him. Arizona vs Carolina in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 6 at 5 p.m. our time at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, on NBC. Rookie Carson Beck is starting at quarterback and it’s Mike LaFleur’s first game running the team. Arizona is the designated home team 1,800 miles from Glendale.

Luke Kuechly goes in the same day, which is a nice full circle for two guys who spent years running into each other, including the 2015 NFC Championship. The rest of the class is Drew Brees, Adam Vinatieri and Roger Craig.

UPDATE on the Arizona man who caught fire at a gas pump.

New witness video from July 16 shows the encounter on the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation from a wider angle. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officer deployed a taser on Chuck Coyl a few feet from a fuel pump and flames went up. Coyl says he was left with first and second degree burns and nerve damage and has more than a month of physical therapy ahead. He was never arrested and has not been charged with anything. He says he intends to take legal action.

A retired Chandler officer who trains on use of force reviewed the footage for FOX 10. Josh Logan said Coyl was not clenching his fists and did not appear to show active aggression, that the severity of the alleged offense was low and the threat was low, and that other options were available. That is his read, not an official finding. Fish and Wildlife says the deployment is under review and will not comment further.

Here is the part that sits heavy. In 2023 the Interior Department’s own Inspector General found the department was running an outdated taser policy, that supervisors at bureaus including Fish and Wildlife were not thoroughly reviewing incident reports, and that recertification training was inconsistent and incomplete. Fish and Wildlife says its policy is current now. This is also not the first gas station taser fire. A Florida man burned over most of his body in a 2022 case is still fighting his lawsuit, and the deputy in that one was acquitted.

Interior policy already says these devices should not be used near flammable materials. The review has been open since July. What should it actually produce?

Shot two teenage girls over a lane change and got taken down by Hello Kitty.

March 12, 9:30 in the morning at Golf Links and Kolb in Tucson. Police say the girls’ car tried to merge, David Cedeno kept accelerating to block them, and when both cars turned he pulled up beside them and fired a handgun into the car. One bullet went through one girl’s leg and into the leg of the other. Both were hospitalized and both are okay.

Here is where it falls apart for him. The girls remembered a personalized plate that read HATHER and a Hello Kitty sticker on the rear window. That was it. That was the whole case. Detectives were at a house nearby within hours and a woman who had been riding with him told police she had already pulled the plate and the sticker off the SUV, which is exactly how you catch an evidence tampering charge on top of everything else.

Cedeno, 30, told investigators he thought someone in the other car had a gun. The girls said nobody in their car was armed and the woman with him said she saw and heard nothing to suggest it. He pleaded guilty in June and on Monday a judge gave him seven and a half years in prison, three years of probation after that, and the girls’ medical bills.

Somebody blocked a merge so hard he ended up in prison over a cartoon cat. Defend Arizona drivers in the comments, I will wait.

She was 19 years old and on her way to lunch.

Jeanne Overstreet left the midtown Tucson home she shared with two roommates around noon on September 3, 1982. She was working as a hotel maid. Police say she was hitchhiking near Stone Avenue and University Boulevard to meet someone downtown to eat. She never made it. Her family never saw or heard from her again, and she left her puppy behind.

Fourteen months later a deputy found skeletal remains out in the Pinal County desert. No one knew who they belonged to. They stayed in storage at the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office for nearly three decades until DNA finally gave them a name in 2012. That is 30 years her family spent not knowing, and then 14 more with a name and still no answer.

Tucson PD’s Cold Case Unit is actively working her disappearance and homicide right now, and they are putting her photo back out because somebody out there remembers something. A car. A name. A story someone told once and never repeated. Forty-four years is a long time to keep a secret for someone else.

He put a gun to a 12 year old’s chest, took his e-bike, and told him he’d shoot him if he called the cops. The kid called the cops.

It happened February 6 on a trail near Greenfield Junior High in Gilbert. Prosecutors say Dyllin Keys and a 14 year old targeted the boy, and Keys pointed a handgun at his chest and told him to hand over the e-bike or be shot. Then he warned him not to call police.

The second they rode off, the boy dialed 911. Gilbert police had Keys in custody within minutes.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said the fear in that kid’s voice on the call was heartbreaking, and that he showed tremendous courage making it anyway. Because he did, and because Gilbert PD moved fast, they had their guy almost immediately.

Keys pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced Monday to five years. He was 18 years old.

That 12 year old did everything right under the worst possible pressure. Whoever raised him, well done.

Somebody in Sun City West is walking around with a $50,000 Powerball ticket and might not know it yet.

Arizona Lottery says the winner came out of Saturday’s drawing, on a ticket sold at the Safeway near R H Johnson Boulevard and Camino Del Sol. The numbers were 6, 17, 27, 48, 50 and Powerball 5.

Here’s the part that stings a little. A $50,000 win means they hit four numbers plus the Powerball. One more white ball and we’d be talking about a completely different headline.

Still, fifty grand from a grocery store run is a good Saturday by anybody’s math.

If you were in that Safeway this weekend, check the glove box, check the junk drawer, check the bottom of your bag.

Arianna Jones was 21 years old with a two year old son. She went to the movies with a guy she’d met online. She was last heard from on July 5, and about a week later investigators found her body in a shallow grave near Lake Pleasant.

Glendale police say Domonic Rodolico, 24, met her through social media. A grand jury has indicted him on murder charges. He’s pleaded not guilty and his trial is set for March.

Her family and friends gathered Saturday night to remember her, nearly a month out. Her great uncle Carlos Maldonado said the hardest part is that her son will never know who his mother was. Family friend Vivian Lopez Jr. said she loved that little boy. Maldonado said what the family wants isn’t complicated. They want to know why.

Right now nobody can tell them. The motive and her exact cause of death are both still undetermined.

Nothing about this is on her. Meeting someone online and going to a movie is what half this city does on a weeknight. But since we’re all doing it, a few things that cost nothing.

Tell somebody exactly who you’re meeting, where, and when you’ll be back. Share your live location with a friend for the night. Drive yourself. Screenshot their profile and send it to someone before you leave. And if the plan changes mid-date to somewhere quieter or further out, that’s the moment to bail, not the moment to be polite.

March is a long wait for a family that just wants an answer.
