"Louis Crayton: Taylor Government Paid Lone Star Bills in 2002"
Former Lone Star goalkeeper Louis Crayton says the Charles Taylor government covered all costs for the national team during the 2002 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.
In a Facebook post, Crayton said Taylor’s government paid for jerseys, hotel stays at Kings Lodge, and meals. He added that players coming from abroad got $5,000 each, while George Weah got $10,000 as technical director.
Crayton called it facts and warned people not to rewrite history. He said every player from that team, including Edwin Snowe, can confirm it.
His statement has brought back old talks about how Liberia’s team was funded back then.

"Timothy Weah Makes U.S. World Cup Squad Again"
Timothy Weah is headed to his second FIFA World Cup.
The U.S. Men’s National Team revealed its 2026 roster in New York on Tuesday, and Weah keeps the No. 21 shirt. Family, including his father George Weah and mother Clar Marie Weah, were there to celebrate as the team was introduced.
This will be Weah’s second straight World Cup. He burst onto the scene in Qatar 2022, scoring the U.S. opening goal against Wales and becoming the first son of an African Ballon d’Or winner to score at the tournament.
Now 26, Weah comes in with more experience after a solid season with Olympique Marseille, playing winger, wing-back, and full-back in Ligue 1.
For Liberians worldwide, his rise still hits close to home. Even though he plays for the U.S., many see his success as part of the Weah football legacy.
With the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, Weah will be key for the American side again with his speed and big-game experience.
