Whether recording, teaching yoga, or showcasing with Deja Blue the goal is the same...to be present in the moment which can be draining but I feel joy nonetheless.

You know you’ve made it when they play your song at a wedding
I don’t often get to go to weddings as a guest, so when my friend and fellow musician Nathan and his bride Lindsay sent the invite (and I wasn’t working) of course I had to be there. It even took me a second to realize I could actually eat the food at cocktail hour
I was already having a blast catching up with old friends from the music scene and being out with the best dates ever when the DJ suddenly dropped Surrender mid-reception—complete with the old dance routine they used to do at my shows. And yes…they finally got me to do the Surrender dance.
I’ve been lucky to be part of a lot of communities in my life, but nothing compares to the Philly music scene.

Ask 100 musicians why they make music, and you’ll get 100 different answers. For me, it started as a way to express myself. Certain thoughts and feelings were just easier to deal with — easier to share — when they were wrapped in a melody. Music helped me say things I didn’t have the words for, and it helped me connect.
But here’s the thing: to get to something true, you gotta dig deep. Plant your feet. Bite your bottom lip. Squint your eyes. Pucker your bu****le. (Yup.) You push that thing out, hoping folks are listening…and not looking too close.
If someone’s playing and it ain’t ugly? Don’t trust it.
It ain’t pretty. But that’s alright.
