Celebrating Sharswood!
A few weeks ago, I was happy to share the news that Sharswood School received a $225,000 state grant that my office and Senator Nikil Saval helped acquire. Last week, we gathered on the field at Murphy Rec Center to celebrate this news with a check presentation!
It was so fun to join the Sharswood community, students, staff, and Principal Leigh Vitvitsky to celebrate this big win. These funds will be used to transform the school's courtyard into a warm and welcoming green space and playground.
This grant is part of my longtime work to bring state dollars back to the district for parks, playgrounds, rec centers, and other community gathering spaces. You can learn more about this effort at bit.ly/spring184map.

All of our neighbors deserve access to high-quality public space, and I am committed to bringing state dollars back to the district to make that happen. My latest stop in the district to celebrate this funding was at Southwark School! Southwark received a $68,700 grant a few years ago to support renovations to their auditorium, a highly-needed project for the school's outstanding music programs.
This week, we celebrated the completed renovations. I was honored to cut the ribbon on the stage and hear student orchestral and choir performances at this event.

Well said from my colleague Rep. Jennifer O'Mara
"We often say we value families in Pennsylvania, but Pennsylvania is now one of the last states in the region without a statewide paid family and medical leave program. Advancing the Family Care Act would demonstrate a commitment to prioritizing Pennsylvania’s families and recognizing caregiving as essential to the health and stability of our communities."
