We are deeply honored to join this historic celebration of the Philadelphia Irish community. As The Shantys, our roots run through these streets: we recorded our album a few years ago in Kensington above the Fire Music venue and named it Nanny Goat Market in remembrance of the Kensington riots and the resilience of the neighborhood. Being invited to play this festival feels like everything has come full circle. Our singer and guitar player Jack McKee is also Kensington born and raised, and we’re thrilled to return to our roots and share our music with the community that helped shape us.

From traditional Irish sounds to high-energy folk and rock, the stage runs 2 PM to sunset! 🌅

Nanny Goat Fest takes its name from the open-air Nanny Goat Market that once stood along American Street; a neighborhood gathering place destroyed during the riots of May 1844.

The festival marks the dedication of a new Pennsylvania Historical Marker commemorating the Kensington Riots of 1844 and celebrating the Irish American immigrant community that rebuilt in the aftermath.

Come early. Stay late.
