This is a series of 10 videos. We'll watch the videos and then discuss them. If you've been away from Calix for awhile this is a great time to come back. We have the Angelus and adoration at 6 PM; Mass at 6:15 and Calix meeting at 7. To accommodate time for the video and discussion, meetings may be extended until 8:15 PM. An unbelievable "Is that odd, or is that God?" moment occurred yesterday, the Feast of Ascension Thursday. First, I get a call from the person working on a transaction for Our House Ministry (Fr. McKay's ministry which supports Calix in Grays Ferry) to purchase 3 properties on 29th St. We had made our original offer back in February and have been waiting patiently to hear from the owner. Yesterday we learned that our offer, with a small request, was accepted! I call Fr. McKay to let him know only to learn that right around the same time he received a phone call from Msgr. Daniel Sullivan, Director of Clergy for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, letting him know that his request that he submitted last summer to be transferred to full-time status with Our House Ministry was accepted and will take effect on 6/24/2014! Is that odd, or is that God?
Then I go to Mass last night and in the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus tells his disciples, "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons that the Father has established by his own authority".
Please join us in prayers of thanksgiving for what our good God has done for us this week!
As a side note, I have had a feeling for the last month that we would hear about both of these items at the same time and He did not disappoint!
Thanks to Linda A. Doheny for asking for an update! This week we have our weekly meeting in Grays Ferry, 30th & Dickinson Sts. (entrance on Myrtlwood St.). We start with the Angelus at 6:00 followed by Mass at 6:15 and our Calix meeting from 7 to 8. I leave from Glenside if anybody wants to ride with me! Next meeting at St. Luke's in Glenside will be Wednesday 5/28 and Nativity BVM in Media on the second Monday in June. ALSO - this year's national convention/retreat is being held August 1-3 at the retreat house in Malvern. Fr. Brian Lawless, Vice Postulator for the Cause for Matt Talbot's canonization will be traveling from Ireland to be with us for the weekend!
With the Pope Benedict XVI's announcement if his resignation at the end of this month, please add the following Novena prayer to your daily list until the new pope is elected:
Novena prayer for a conclave
Heavenly Father,
We, the people of God, gathered in solidarity as did the disciples in the Upper Room, pray for the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the cardinals who will be in conclave for the election of the next Vicar of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the hearts of our cardinals be open to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, beyond any human judgment, to elect the candidate most pleasing to you, Heavenly Father, and who will guide the Church at this momentous time in history and the beginning of the Third Millenium.
We invoke our Mother Mary, united in prayer with the disciples in the Upper Room, to intercede for our cardinals to select the next Holy Father in docility to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, her divine Spouse. With Mary, Mother of God and of the Church, we entrust this conclave to your maternal and Immaculate Heart, and offer these prayers for your guidance and protection over the choosing of the next Vicar of your Son.
1 Our Father
1 Hail Mary
1 Glory Be
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us!
This Week in Calix:
As the collect for tomorrow's Mass says, "God our Creator we give thanks to you, who alone have the power to impart the breath of life as you form each of us in our mother's womb; grant, as we pray, that we, whom you have made stewards of creation, may remain faithful to this sacred trust and constant in safeguarding the dignity of every human life."
