PennFlow
The place to go for updates on flow cytometry technology and news from the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania
Identifying and sorting cells from a rapidly moving fluid stream, once as novel an idea as a Wright Brothers plane, has been possible for more than four decades. However, where earlier technology was esoteric, complicated and not widely used, facilities such as the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Resource Laboratory have helped to make this technology widely accessible and relatively easy to use.

Understanding COVID-19 and Immune Responses
Tuesday, November 17
11 a.m. PDT | 2 p.m. EDT
On the next BD FACSMatters Ask the Expert, our very own Bob Balderas will be moderating an insightful scientific session joined by two eminent scientists, Dr. Deepak Kaushal and Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Singh, who will discuss their quests to answer key immunology questions as it relates to infectious diseases with emphasis on COVID-19.
Following their presentations, there will be a live panel discussion on how flow cytometry is used as a tool to understand immune responses and design vaccines.
Join us on this special webcast:
⢠Discover how vaccine research for tuberculosis and COVID-19 go hand-in-hand, proposing similarities between the two diseases and highlighting major differences in their manifestations
⢠Learn how flow cytometry empowers our ability to understand the biology of diseases and how we can apply that knowledge to develop novel vaccines and therapeutics
⢠Ask your questions to a live panel of immunology experts

Due to the recent unrest in our region, and in accordance with University directives, the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource lab will delay Phase I resumption of research until Monday, June 8th at the earliest. In the interim, no instruments will be available for research purposes.
It is our hope to have all available analyzers online by the middle to end of next week, and staff-assisted sorter services available by the following week. We will provide further updates as the situation develops.
