We're entering a new era where electricity, not oil and gas, will define economic dominance. Meeting rising global demand requires massive infrastructure and energy project development to support a growing economy. The challenge is significant, and we must rise to meet it.
The US aims for AI dominance over China, but meeting the immense demand from AI and data centers requires a massive power grid upgrade. Talks in Washington are underway to modernize transmission lines and bring more electricity online. The details are complex, but essential for the future.
It takes us longer to build a wind farm in the US that it did for the first moon mission. Our power grid is seriously outdated, with parts dating back to the 60s and 70s. We need a national strategy to update transmission infrastructure, connecting power generation to where it's needed. Let's encourage development of all energy resources without government picking winners.
When oil prices surge due to supply disruptions like the Strait of Hormuz, it makes previously uneconomical drilling sites profitable. However, this also incentivizes consumers to seek alternatives, potentially accelerating the move towards renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
The East Coast of the US holds immense offshore wind potential. I saw it as machines pumping money from the wind onto land, a clear win for America regardless of political party. This opportunity seemed too profitable to ignore.
Miss America 2023, Grace Vanderhei, is the perfect host in this trailer for the Worldview Films show concept about clean energy. Not only is she great on camera, but she also happens to be a nuclear engineer.
Climate stories can be a bit boring. Grace and I are both driven by the belief that they can also be exciting. Exploring the right stories in the right way is the trick.
I’ve been spending the last few years filming large clean energy and infrastructure projects, and trying to make sense of how these systems actually get built.
I started recording some conversations about it.
First episode is with Jason Ryan, who’s spent years in the industry (American Clean Power, BP). We talk about why it’s become so difficult to build energy infrastructure in the US, and how that’s starting to show up in prices and competitiveness.
Sharing it here.

The toughest barrier to building clean energy infrastructure isn’t engineering. It’s public understanding. That’s where Worldview Films comes in. I’ve laid out a blueprint of our theory here.
The Worldview Films Blueprint Our Quest to Build a New Genre of Sustainability Storytelling
I think renewable energy is bipartisan, and we are all hurt when we retreat into our energy camps and fight. I’ve got lots of thoughts on how we can be smarter about making energy in the US and I think we need more conversations about this. It also ties strongly into the idea of sustainable abundance.

We're excited to help offshore wind projects tell their important story. Here, one of our photos of an Empire Wind project is featured in a Canary Media article. I'm a huge fan of Canary, so it's an honor to be featured. Thanks so much to the Equinor team and everyone helping to keep offshore wind strong in these turbulent times.

Earlier this month, I had the great pleasure of directing a sizzle shoot with Miss America 2023, Grace Vanderhei, who also happens to be a nuclear engineer at CONSTELLATION ENERGY GROUP INC! We filmed at the Conowingo Hydroelectric Dam in Maryland. Worldview Films is developing a TV show exploring the future of abundance and energy in the US, and we think Grace is an amazing host for the show. Right now we are raising funding and working on development deals. If you'd like to learn more, please get in touch!
