The Philly Pops and the South Street District are partnering to bring the sounds of Motown and R&B favorites to transform the 2nd and South Street Plaza into a groovy picnic site. This free, family-friendly event gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy live music!

Around the 175th District: Today in 1787, the first steamboat for passengers set sale from Philadelphia. Visit the Independence Seaport Museum and explore Philadelphia’s river history and the interactive exhibits.

The Philadelphia Ride of Silence has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., starting on the North side of City Hall (Broad and JFK). The purpose of this silent ride is to honor cyclists killed and injured in motor vehicle-related accidents, and to raise awareness about the rights of cyclists to ride the roads. Please join us on Wednesday.

As we celebrate Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer, let us be reminded of those who gave their lives in service to the United States. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday.

Around the 175th District: The 1st World’s Fair was in 1876. Revisit the Centennial Exhibition, in June, at the Lits Building at 8th and Market Streets.

It was a great weekend to get out and raise funds for the Summer at Courtyard Block Party and Raffle Fundraiser.
