While Henry Mercer may be the father of preservation here in Doylestown, today we want to recognize his mother, Mary Chapman Mercer 👵🏻 This photo was taken in 1903 at the family’s summer home, which now operates as the Harbor Crest Inn, right next to its sister property Chapman Cottage as part of the York Harbor Inn in Maine. The fireplaces at the property are still surrounded by the tiles made by Mercer right here in Doylestown!

Beloved by her son, Mary was known as a nurturing and caring person and a central figure in the Mercer family. She was born on February 10, 1831 and died on October 29, 1903 at age 72.
