Gis are in. 🥋

Today’s theme: Get a Grip.

In no-gi, things slip.
In the gi, you can grab, control, and dictate the pace.

We’re teaching our students that control starts with the grips — and if you don’t deal with grips early, you’re already behind.

On the mat and in life:
Don’t let things just happen to you.
Take control. Address it early. Get a grip.

Grip → Control → Position → Submission

We got a birthday today 🎉
Happy Birthday to our cofounder, Israel 💙

In honor of today, it felt like the perfect time to share a little bit about who we are and how this all came to be.

We met at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2022…complete strangers at the time.
But somehow, not really.

We both went to Temple and were part of the multicultural Greek council. We had so many shared people, shared spaces and shared memories - just in different eras. Timing really is everything.

About 10 months later, I invited him to speak at a career day for my students, knowing he’d be someone who could really reach them.

He later asked me (unknowingly on the one year anniversary of said wedding) to help facilitate courses with Project Bluebird, and somewhere along the way, ideas turned into programs, and programs turned into purpose.

Nearly four years later, here we are building, teaching, and creating while balancing full time jobs, family, and life.

I’m so grateful for your presence, your passion, and your constant willingness to show up and .

The work is better because of you.
Happy Birthday 💙🙏🏽

Happy World Poetry Day.

Yesterday I had the privilege of facilitating a poetry workshop at Delaware Technical Community College where we explored the idea of turning pain into purpose.

I shared my approach to poetry, and then everyone wrote and shared poems of their own. What followed were powerful stories, honest reflections, and a reminder that writing can transform what hurts into something meaningful.

This is why I believe poetry is medicine.

Getting Back Up 💥

In Jiu-Jitsu and in life, falling is part of the journey.

Today in Poetry in Motion, our students are learning how to get back up — on the mats and on the page.

Because every fall is just another chance to rise again.

“The best gift you can give your kids is confidence, respect, focus, strength.”
— Daniel Gracie

At Poetry in Motion, we use Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and creative expression to help kids build all four — on and off the mats.

Confidence through strength.

There’s “The Artist’s Way” and then there’s “Living the Artist’s Way”

Enjoyed this 6-week course as a refresher and companion for the last 6 weeks. Bittersweet returning this to the library today.

Post Valentines Morning Pages 📝✨

Don’t forget to send yourself a valentine. When you’re ready, write a letter about what you’ve already accomplished in your career, your relationships, your social life. Not the gaps. Not the pressure. Not the comparison.

Just the truth of who you’ve become.

The risks you took.
The boundaries you learned.
The love you gave.
The growth no one applauded but you lived through.

Let this be a gentle reminder that you are are evolving.

Write to yourself with kindness this morning.
