CranioSacral Therapy Craniosacral can be described as myofascial release for the central nervous system. It is a gentle technique, often performed with clothes on, that can help release trauma and calm inflammation.
It is gentle enough to work with babies yet profound enough to affect a horses posture. Everyone should try it, whether you have physical pain or not. It is comforting and relaxing and often has a profound effect on the entire system.

This girl is a miracle! Just a few weeks ago she was so twisted in her abdomen we weren’t sure if she was going to make it. She has completely straightened out, lost a ton of weight, and lets me work with her without a bridle or hay as a distraction. She doesn’t cow kick me anymore when I lift her ribs and lets me pick up her legs to do release that before would have been impossible. I’m so excited I get to be a part of this ❤️
Thank goodness for fences!

This is the money shot! This is what a good release looks like. One giant toothy yawn followed by grunt or groan. Snix had a suspected break in his tail and it always went off to one side. After releasing his sacrococcygeal joint and unwinding all the fascia around it, his tail was able to lift straight up completely centered. Once that happened he lifted his own leg for a hock release on that previously tight side- something he was not having last time and finally let me anywhere near that psaos. Actually he let Chris touch his psoas- wish I had gotten a picture of that!
After his session was essentially over, he lifted his front left leg and started banging it on buckets, which I assumed meant he wasn't done yet. I released the tension around that knee until he lifted it for me and let me do a scapula release- again something he wasn't interested in until we released the whole back end. I had so much fun today with this guy as he went from squealing at the other horses to putty in my hands. He was so gentle and slow with me, even though it's mating season and he had much more important things to do!
Miracle of the Day:
This girl waited her turn patiently, alone for HOURS, watching and napping in the shade while we worked with her friends just beyond the gate in the barn. Every other horse was aching to go out and play while she came in willingly and waited.
When it was obvious we were done for the day and had completely forgotten her, she wandered off to graze on all the new shoots and wildflowers, but not out in the rolling acres of fields, just a few feet away within our peripheral vision. When I heard she was having trouble with her gut again I went over to check her out.
She stopped grazing, lifted her head up and leaned way in to a good neck rub. She looked and acted like a giant puppy!
Of course, there are a bunch of clinical things we were working on like stimulating Kidney meridian to balance the water in her eliminations; releasing trigger points in her brachiocephalicus muscles and smoothing out the fascia to open the jugular groove- making space for jugular venous flow and the carotid artery, which opened up to the deeper work in the sternocephalicus and unwinding the brachial plexus and finally gaining access to her first rib. I'm not totally sure what is going on in her rib or if it's just being pulled back by the pressure of excess girth, but we'll find out next week when we get her in the barn on a flat surface and watch to see if she can square up and where her withers are pulling after a more global neck release.
My favorite pictures of the day. I couldn’t pick just one!
Miracle #1: this guy looks 10 years younger and galloped away from his session. He could barely walk when we started working together.
Miracle #2: a different horse has had scary digestive issues for months, walked away after 5 minutes of work and was completely back to normal. 5 minutes!
Did you Know the Longus Colli is often affected by whiplash and is considered to be responsible for the loss of curvature in your neck? I can only imagine what that does to every other structure in your neck including your thyroid and an the ability to support chiropractic adjustments. Let's get that released!
BTW: This is THE coolest website. Click below, you won't regret it.
Longus Colli Muscle Anatomy, Function & Diagram | Body Maps The longus colli muscle is found on the anterior (front) side of the vertebral column in the neck. The muscle connects the atlas (the topmost vertebra of the spine) with the third thoracic vertebra in the upper back.
The correlation of ideopathic endogenous depression and the triad of compassion/depression sounds pretty serious. It basically just means: you had a baby; your ligaments are loose, yet you have to (get to) hold 10 extra pounds in your weakened arms with your neck twisted and craning forward to gaze lovingly into their eyes. That's likely to cause some problems. Craniosacral therapists are trained to find those problems (usually 3 in specific) and release them for better resilience, strength and energy. That's it. Simple, gentle, and restorative. When you know you are struggling to find sleep, strength, physical comfort and stamina, let me help you find them. If I can't, I'll help you find someone who can.

I've worked with horses a few times now and each time was a delight. The first time, the injured horse declined working with another therapist who was called out to help him. This horse got up from a seated position to come to me and let me feel what was going on for him. His trainer was amazed. I was amazed.

My first experience with Traumatic Brain Injury was in a Craniosacral class. During mouth work my partner's nose started bleeding. I'd never seen anything like that. He told me it happened all the time as a result of multiple concussions he endured while playing high school football. It would be very interesting to to see if the issue resolves itself with advanced Craniosacral therapy or if something else interesting happens.
