University officials are closely monitoring the severe weather that is forecast for today, Dec. 14 through Thursday, Dec. 15 early morning in Northwest Florida. The upcoming severe weather, which is projected to move into the Pensacola area late this afternoon, has the potential for strong tornadoes, wind speeds up to 70 mph, heavy rainfall and hail. Out of an abundance of caution, the University of West Florida will close at 3 p.m. today.

Normal University operations will resume on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 5 a.m., unless conditions change, in which case, University officials will notify the campus community.

Betsy Bowers was named Distinguished Alumna in Higher Education by East Tennessee State University. Bowers graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1980 and worked for the Tennessee Division of State Audit before returning to East Tennessee State University.

In 1993, she joined as chief audit executive and now serves as vice president for the Division of Finance and Administration and the University’s chief financial officer.
She continues to be a timeless advocate for women in leadership positions in higher education.
