G.A. Advice

Today's advice spotlight is Maggie Helton! Maggie is a Graduate Assistant at the Center for Behavior Analysis here at UWF. We asked Maggie to tell us about herself and how someone might get involved in her field.

Here is what Maggie had to say: “I am a master's in Exceptional Student Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. Once I have finished my degree I will test to become a board certified behavior analyst. I also work as a behavioral therapist for children with autism when I am not at UWF.

I became a registered behavior technician (RBT) over two years ago when I applied to a position at a local clinic. I had no prior knowledge about applied behavior analysis but once I started, I immediately fell in love with the field. Applied behavior analysis uses positive reinforcement to change behaviors and help people acquire new skills. It is used in so many ways, including animal training, gerontology, education, and occupational behavior management. The most common way that people become involved is starting as a RBT and working in a clinical setting.”

Thank you for the advice, Maggie!
