I am very excited to announce I started my new position this week as the Executive Director of Enrollment Management, Data, & Student Success in the College of Education & Professional Studies at the University of West Florida. I appreciate all those who have mentored me for this position and I am looking forward to the new challenges moving forward. I will no longer be directly advising students in this new position, which will be an adjustment. I have been advising since 2009 (13 years) and will miss the one-one-one interactions. However, I now have the platform to make a broader impact on the student experience and I cannot wait to see what happens.

Happy Friday, Argos! 🎉
Today’s Faculty Spotlight is Dr. Jennifer L. Brinkley, an Assistant Professor of Legal Studies in the Department of Administration and Law and faculty mentor to undergraduate research students. 👩⚖️
Dr. Brinkley is in her second year of serving as an undergraduate research supervisor. And currently serves as a Faculty Guide for the OUR Explorers Program, and for OUR Works! Dr. Brinkley shared that her favorite part of mentoring students is “seeing how much they grow in their research and writing skills throughout the academic year.” In fact, recent undergraduate research mentees were published in the The Summation Quarterly, a magazine published throughout Florida’s Escambia and Santa Rosa County and to members of the legal community.
Dr. Brinkley is currently completing research in the area of period poverty. She also is working on an article about gender and jury service. Her previous research has recently been published in the Northern Illinois University Law Review, Kentucky Law Journal, South Carolina Law Review, and Quinnipiac Law Review.
Dr. Brinkley strongly encourages students who are interested in research to contact OUR so they can find a faculty mentor in line with their research interests.

UWF Legal Studies graduate Halle Diaz recently made headlines in Alabama after winning a case advocating for the elderly.
Diaz, who currently studies at the University of Alabama School of Law, represented an elderly, disabled woman who was at risk of being evicted from her long-term care facility due to confusion over her eligibility for assisted living. Diaz successfully appealed the insurance termination, allowing the client to remain in her home and recoup over $25,000 in back pay compensation.
