Update 10:50a - We have safely landed in Pensacola! Thank you for all the well-wishes!
- - -
Update 10:06a - We are expected to takeoff in a few minutes. Please send good vibes for a safe flight!

Thanks to last night’s storms, we extended our trip by a day with an additional stop… New Orleans! ⚜️🎭 Please send good vibes as we attempt to make it home safely this morning. ✈️⛈️

Our Costa Rica adventure ended on a literal cliffhanger, causing us to ask ourselves when we might get to return to this beautiful country. 🇨🇷 We started our day by rappelling down 3 waterfalls! 🧗♀️😱 We then visited Escuela San Francisco, a completely self-sustained elementary school in the outskirts of La Fortuna. 📚 We shared a beautiful cultural exchange with their students before enjoying a tortilla cooking class. 👨🍳 This morning was hard to say goodbye to Costa Rica and our friends at the Cincinnati Youth Choir, but at least Arenal came out to see us off! 🌋
•
Choir tour is hardly vacation. It is a rare opportunity to take chances, make new connections, and learn more deeply about the world around us. Empathy is one of our core values at PCC, and the opportunity to immerse oneself in a completely foreign culture is one of the best ways to learn how alike we all truly are in all the best ways. 🤝❤️
•
Thank you Perform International and Forest Melodies Costa Rica for crafting the best travel experience. We hope to be back soon! Pura Vida! 🤙

Our hearts are on fire with beauty of the scenery and people of the Arenal area. 🌋🌳 We arrived to the Arenal National Park yesterday and are enjoying stunning views of its namesake volcano and lake with every passing minute. Yesterday, we got to experience how traditional Costa Rican crafts are made and swim in some therapeutic hot springs. 🎨🌊🌴 Today, we spent time in a local school serving as ambassadors for choral music. There is no greater honor than bringing music to those who need it most! 🎵

Perform International

We’ve “fallen” in love with Costa Rica! 🌊⛰️ Our group spent the morning exploring the La Paz Waterfalls and nature sanctuary, where we saw all sorts of birds and monkeys (and we aren’t talking about the singers!). 🦜🐒 In the evening, we shared a wonderful concert with Estudio Choralia, Coro Intermezzo Costa Rica, and of course, our friends at the Cincinnati Youth Choir! Tomorrow, we’re off to the volcano! 🌋 Thank you, Perform International and Forest Melodies Costa Rica for a fantastic trip so far!

Our tour group was “energized” with a fantastic day at the Doka Estate Coffee Plantation. ☕️ Here, we learned how coffee was made and sampled some of the best quality coffee that is made in Central America. 🥇 We also shared music and played games with our friends at Concordia Coral Costa Rica and Cincinnati Youth Choir. The community that singing builds can cross all divides. 🤝🎵 If you’ve never experienced the raw, unfiltered power of choral singing, we hope you’ll join us on our next trip! ✈️ More fun in the days to come. 😎

There were no sloths 🦥 in this tour group today as we “zipped” around the rainforest. 🌳🌴 Later, we took a gondola 🚡 through the canopy and explored beautiful flora and fauna. 🌺🌸 Then, we shared a concert with our friends at the Cincinnati Youth Choir and our nuevos amigos, the Concordia Coral Costa Rica. 🎶 There is nothing more beautiful than when music brings people together! 🎵🖤

🎭 The Great Saenger Pipe Organ will be featured at Behind the Curtain: An Evening with Martin Tate.
•
🎹 Built in 1925, it is one of the few surviving theater organs in the world. Unlike a traditional pipe organ, the Great Saenger Organ (affectionately known as “Lola”) has the capability of playing a variety of musical instruments… including a piano and lots of percussion. Sadly, much of the organ was has been damaged due to hurricanes, but a lengthy restoration has breathed new life into the instrument.
•
👂If you’ve never heard the Organ before, it provides a sight to behold and a sonic experience unlike any other. Its pipes and mechanics are housed above the balcony boxes which flank the stage arch. The console (the “brains” of the operation) will be on display during the event for an up-close and personal experience.
•
🎟️ Tickets are NOT REQUIRED 💸 for this event! Rather, we hope you’ll consider making a donation to PCC’s Tuition Assistance Fund which ensures that every eager child can find a home in PCC, regardless of financial circumstances. Thank you for your support!

🎵 At Martin's invitation, PCC’s own will join him at the bench for Behind the Curtain.
•
🎶 Mr. Gartner has been leading the Pensacola Children’s Chorus since 2016. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he has enjoyed leading choirs of all ages on many renown stages, including St. Peter’s Basilica, the Great Wall of China, and most recently in Carnegie Hall. Mr. Gartner is also a gifted keyboardist, and both he and Martin Tate were the original dueling pianists for PCC’s annual fundraiser, Italiano.
•
🎹 Mr. Gartner will dust off the Great Saenger Pipe Organ to play a sacred piano/organ duet with Martin. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the organ console up close, as it will be on stage throughout the event.

🎹 Behind the Curtain: An Evening with Martin Tate features a slate of talented artists. Let’s meet another: Hanan Tarabay.
•
💃🏽 Hanan Tarabay is a celebrated opera singer who calls Pensacola home. She attended the Interlochen Arts Academy before continuing her training at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She has performed all over the world and is frequently featured with the Pensacola Opera. Hanan has a long history with the Pensacola Children’s Chorus, having been a member in the early years and later serving as Assistant Director from 2017-2020.
•
🎼 Hanan will sing the Gershwin brothers’ beloved classic, “Someone to Watch Over Me,” with Martin Tate at the piano. It will be a truly heartwarming performance!

•
🎵 Martin E. Tate began his musical journey at the age of 5 when he started playing piano in church. Since then, he has participated in a number of masterclasses and enjoyed playing under the batons of many respected conductors. He holds music degrees from the University of West Florida and Michigan State University. Martin served as PCC’s pianist from 2006-2019, and we are excited to welcome him back home!
•
🎹 Martin will delight attendees with a varied program of piano classics, Broadway medleys, classic hymns, and patriotic music. This is an event you don’t want to miss!
