Knights of Columbus Council 8450

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, where Sr Ann’s hospital is, so many people are dying from Coronavirus that they can’t collect the bodies and families are placing loved ones on the street. After keeping them in the house, the decaying body is removed after days to be buried in a Mass grave without any sort of funeral. Some bodies have been left at the entrances to Sr. Ann’s hospital. Because the medical groups that bring medicines, supplies and perform surgeries have been prevented from entering the country, Sr. Ann was hugely blessed when our Council provided her with $10,000. The visiting groups usually leave her with financial assistance and over 20 groups have cancelled.

Update: Margaret's Rosary will be said at 6pm tomorrow night, Wed., and the viewing will continue until 8pm at Faith Chapel North on Hwy 29 in Cantonment.

Gene just called me and wanted to invite our Brother Knights including wives/significant others to attend her services.

Some of you may not know Gene. His age and taking care of Margaret has prevented him from attending functions. He was big into the Tootsie Roll drives and they attended many social activities. Great couple!!

Margaret's wake will be this Wed. from 6-8pm with Rosary at 7pm at Faith Chapel North on Hwy 29 in Cantonment. Funeral Mass will be at 10am Thursday at Nativity of Our Lord Parish. The internment will be at Barrancas at 11am on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested, if you are so inclined, to make a donation, in Margaret's name, to:
Covenant Hospice
2001 N. Palafox
Pensacola, Fl.

Thank you & God Bless!!,

Jaimie E. Kintz

Sad news! Margaret Ambrose, wife of KC 8450 Brother Gene Ambrose, went to be with The Lord this morning. She passed at 8:10am January 25th. I spoke with Gene and he seems to be doing OK. Margaret has had health issues for quite some time and he has been right by her side the whole time. I have never seen two people as much in love as they are! They are the sweetest couple ever!!

They are attempting to have services on Friday. I will post details when they are made.

Please pray for Margaret, Gene, & their family! RIP Margaret!!

God Bless,

Jaimie E. Kintz

From Dan Flahiff -- The Pancake King

Brother Knights, today's Pancake Breakfast went basically well
in spite of the absence of several of our Brothers that were out
of town on vacation. We had several new Knights that had
not worked a breakfast previously and did an outstanding job.
Also we were fortunate that several wives and family members
were there to fill in for some of the assignments.

Our sales slips unfortunately were not separated for the 8:30 Mass
and the 10:30. The total breakfast's for both mass's was 111 adults
and 11 children. A few Knights dropped by and provided a nice
donation without staying for the breakfast.

Our gross sales for both Mass's was $494.00. Less cost of sales
of $185.78 provided us a net profit to (FARF) Family Assistance
Relief Fund of $308.22.

Thanks to each and everyone all for another great job.
Mark your Calendars for October 11th for our next breakfast.

Prayers requested for Margaret Ambrose. I stopped by today and visited with Gene. Margaret is reaching the end of her journey. She is one of the sweetest, kindest, and most loving people I know. She and Gene are a perfect match...completely awesome couple. She has been battling Alzheimer's and other health issues for quite a while.
They were an integral part of our council for so many years. Margaret was usually in the kitchen helping out in any way she could and always with a smile on her face. When she wasn't in the kitchen, she was visiting with Knights and their families spreading her love around.
Please say a special prayer for her.
Thank you and God bless!!

Brother Knights
As you know Bob Malone our Past Recorder for the Council has
had some serious health issues recently. Theresa called to
let us know that he was back in the hospital again after a
suspected Stroke. Fortunately that was not proven, however
they have not released him as they are unsure exactly what
the problem is and they are continuing to keep him under observation.
As always we ask that you say a few extra prayers for Bob tonight
with hopes that they can identify the problem. Further developments
will be provided when known

Very productive business meeting tonight. New officers elected. Upcoming dinners and events discussed. Finally getting our wall in the parish hall to display our council awards, plaques, etc. More details to come...

If you are Facebook friends with fellow 8450 members and their family, invite them to like our page. Its a great way to get info out about council happenings.

God Bless!!!

Brother Knight Bob Testin passed away this past Friday and his Funeral Service is Monday, 11:00 AM at Nativity.

Bob had always been active in the Council until his terminal
illness took hold 2 plus years back. He was a Pancake Breakfast
volunteer from the beginning.

To show our respect to his wife Rene'e and his family, if your schedule
allows, please consider attending his funeral service.

RIP Bob! Thank you for your dedication and service!!

Dear Brother Knight,

April 2 marked the 10 year anniversary of the death of St. John Paul II. Prior to his death, the Knights of Columbus was blessed to have collaborated with St. John Paul II on many important initiatives and projects ranging from evangelization and communications to the defense of the family and religious freedom. One of the most important goals of St. John Paul II was to foster unity across the American continent. That hopeful vision has become our own as Brother Knights. The Supreme Council is therefore pleased to announce the release of a new documentary film celebrating St. John Paul II and his impact on the American continent.

John Paul II in America: Uniting a Continent explores how the papacy of St. John Paul II left an indelible mark on the American continent. Driven by his singular conviction of a “United American Continent” under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, John Paul II’s papal travels from Argentina to Alaska that generated massive crowds, shaped an entire generation and ultimately changed the course of history.

Narrated by actor Andy Garcia, the film features rare archival footage and insightful analysis from leading figures including Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley of Boston, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, John Paul II biographer George Weigel and former Vatican spokesman Joaquín Navarro-Valls. Viewers will be both intrigued and moved by the documentary’s unprecedented framework for understanding one of the giant figures of our times.

This film airs this month on national television networks as well as EWTN, CatholicTV and Salt + Light TV in Canada. For more information about the film, including broadcast times and how you can purchase a DVD, please visitt

How 'bout making it even more enjoyable and getting together with some old and new friends at our January Knight's Social on 1/24 at 6:30pm???

We'll meet at Nativity's Hall and enjoy a trip to Tuscany featuring a Bacon and Tomato Pasta main dish accompanied by a Black Bean Salad. This pasta recipe always gets rave reviews....can't go wrong with crisp bacon, fire-roasted tomatoes, garlic, red wine, basil chiffonade, and more all tossed in pasta. The Black Bean Soup features black beans, corn, roma tomatoes, red onions, garlic, pineapple, cilantro, etc. that has a very flavorful, complex profile.

This will be in our famous pot-luck fashion so please bring a dish to share....salad, side, dessert, etc.

PLEASE RSVP to Jaimie at [email protected] with the # in your group so we can plan accordingly!!!!! Don't want to make too little or too much... it helps greatly if we know how many to expect.

This is a great time to invite any prospective members and their families to attend so they can see why they should join our council family.

Thanks...hope to see you there!!!!,

It is with a sad heart that I report Emile James' passing. He was diagnosed with cancer about 2 weeks ago and passed away this past Tuesday at West Fla. Hospital. Emile's only living relative is a cousin from North Carolina that came to Pensacola to attend to the final arrangements. It was Emile's wish that his body be left to science and his request has been granted. Emile was 80 years old and was preceded in death by his lovely bride.

Emile was a Charter Member of Council 8450 and a Sir Knight in the DeLuna Assembly. He held several officer positions in the Knights and was a State Delegate to a Supreme Convention which he considered a true honor.

He also volunteered at West Fla. Hospital. He had a keen sense of humor and could always be counted on for a "No" vote no matter what the council voted on. He felt that no vote should be unamimous. We could have voted on sainthood for Mother Teresa and he would cast the only "no" vote. It was always well received with a chuckle from the council. That was just Emile.

I will meet with his cousin and get info for an obit since one has not been created yet. If you have any info that we might add to the obit or memorial service, please email it to me. Council 8450, in conjunction with Nativity of Our Lord Parish, will schedule a Memorial Sevice and reception for Emile in the near future. We will get word out to all of you soon.
Please remember Emile in your thoughts and prayers.

Social tonight 8/23 6:30pm Fried Chicken and potluck dinner. Please bring a dish to share. See you there..

We celebrated our council's 28th Anniversary at our meeting. Dan Flahiff, one of our Charter (original) Members, toasted the occasion. We've had a lot of good times and accomplished many good things over the years. We had 2 types of cake, ice cream, & cookies... a diabetic's nightmare, but it was delicious.
