๐ Meet Dr. Karen N. Evans ๐
Introducing Dr. Karen N. Evans, an exceptional member of our faculty! ๐
Dr. Evans holds degrees in Psychology, Religious Education, and Curriculum & Instruction (with a Social Studies focus). She's been with us for 12 inspiring years after a successful tenure as the former Minister of Education at First United Methodist Church in Pensacola.
Aside from her passion for education, Dr. Evans is a devoted Duke basketball fan. ๐
She reminds us that educators are the backbone of society and believes in the power of Social Studies education.
Let's celebrate Dr. Evans for her dedication to changing lives! ๐๐
John Dewey once said, 'Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.' ๐
Those words are a great reminder that each day of learning, every moment of discovery, and every challenge overcome is an integral part of our life's journey. Cherish the gift of education!. ๐ฟ๐ก

Dr. Keri Fogle and Heather Landry, a UWF student and Escambia County paraprofessional from Westgate Center, joined 290 advocates in Washington, DC on July 11, meeting with members of Congress on issues important to special education. The two took part in the Special Education Legislative Summit hosted by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and Council for Administrators of Special Education (CASE). Together, they joined other advocates from Florida to speak with members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives on the importance of continued funding for discretionary programs in special education, such as the Para to Teacher Support Program. Currently, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are discussing drastically different funding bills for the U.S. Department of Education fiscal year 2024. The Senate bill mostly maintains current funding levels throughout the U.S. education system, while the House bill proposes an overall decrease of 28% ($22.1 billion). The decrease would reportedly reduce classrooms across the nation by 220,000 teachers at a time when the profession is already experiencing teacher shortages in 48 states.

Congratulations!

Meet Lee Christine Gaul!
New Hire for Department of Legal Studies
Lee Christine Gaul is the newest addition to the Department of Legal Studies. She has backpacked solo through Europe and owns a Sprinter van that she uses during summer months to tour the continental U.S. She grew up in the Panama Canal Zone, and has visited U.S. islands and territories, including Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Hawaii.
Welcome, Lee!
