The 1st episode of my very first documentary I started in 2017.
Jiu-jitsu has taught me a lot of things about myself. The good, the bad, and all the things you don’t want others to see. Try as you might, everyone around you sees through it anyway.
Knowing how to do an armbar is one thing, the ability to pull-off an armbar while you’re out of breath and getting smashed on the mats are two very different things. The same principle applies to producing a documentary. It’s hard to make it work. But you just have to stay with it and keep working at it.
I made so many mistakes while filming this, experimenting with different color profiles, terrible mic placement, only did the minimum preproduction, and so many other things. But, it's all about the story so here it is.
Thank you Professor Beto Vilanova for all the encouragement, the smashes, the after-training talks, and for being like a brother to me. Appreciate you and everything you’ve done for me. 🙏🏼
I hope you enjoy the 1st episode!

Every veteran I've met on this journey has one hell of a story. But this one, it's different.

I've never witnessed someone center themselves like I saw yesterday while filming. Creating art is so powerful.
