UWF's Chemistry Scholars Program was awarded the 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
What does this mean to you?
The recognition honors institutions that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students involved in the UWF program have the opportunity to meet monthly to hear guest speakers discuss summer research programs and post-baccalaureate opportunities, receive career advice, participate in peer-to-peer mentoring, and receive professional development and mentoring from the faculty in the Department of Chemistry.
Bottom line?
The State University System is a good return on investment.
Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University of West Florida!
Chemistry courses at UWF are typically small, which allows our instructors to pay personal attention to each individual student. Nevertheless, our laboratories are inordinately well-equipped with top-of-the-line computer controlled instrumentation. We pride ourselves on giving students hands-on training with this start-of-the-art instrumentation so they are extremely well-prepared for the job market, professional school or graduate school.

It's and in just two days we will all compete in raising the most for our colleges and students during the final Battle of the Decades competition for UWF Day of Giving!
Make your gift on April 20, 2023, for the final Battle of the Decades competition for UWF Day of Giving.
Alumni are invited to share their graduating decade when giving and non-alumni donors can choose from supporting the decade they got involved at UWF or when they made their first gift to the University. Donate $30 to earn a pair of exclusive UWF socks. In our first competition in 2021, the 90s decade won out for the most dollars raised. In 2022, the graduates of the 60s & 70s became the reigning champions.
Who will take home the final Battle of the Decades title in 2023? Join us on April 20 to find out! Learn more and make your gift at dayofgiving.uwf.edu.

One Endowment.
Endless Opportunities.
Support STEM Scholarships.
HMCSE students need your support. Thanks to a generous matching gift from Drs. Muhammad and Fatema Rashid, all gifts made to the STEM scholarship for females and first-generation students by this Fall will be matched up to 50,000 dollars to create a $100K endowment that will benefit STEM students for years to come.
“We believe that supporting STEM scholarships at UWF would aid in fostering future leaders and innovators.” - Dr. Muhammad Rashid
Thank you, in advance for your contribution. Your support is crucial to our efforts of improving diversity in STEM while providing merit and need-based scholarships to first-generation students and underrepresented female STEM majors.
Making an investment in our students is an investment for our future. With your gift, we can reach our goal to be matched fully so more students will benefit from this one endowment.

New Endowment to Honor Inaugural Dean
We are proud to announce the creation of a new endowment in the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. This endowment, created to enhance the chemistry department, was established to honor the Inaugural Dean of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering, Dr. Michael T. Huggins.
Huggins made significant contributions to the University of West Florida, first as a student, then as a faculty member, as Chair of the Chemistry Department, as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and then as the Inaugural Dean of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering. In each of these roles, Dean Huggins provided thoughtful leadership, bringing about a higher level of achievement and commitment from those he served.
