Continuing on our spotlight journey with Deja, learn more about how she got involved and what she is doing now below!

“I began my writing of the script way back when and I worked on it every year since then. I found so many opportunities at UWF that the idea came in mind of putting on the play. I noticed a lack of fantasy within the theatre community because of its difficulties of funding. I also found plays sometimes favor non inclusionary devices, leading to people, who look like me, not represented on the stage. I wanted to help those who are not represented in the theatre under the blanket of a fantasy we often don’t see either. Kinda fun, breaking multiple walls at once!”

“Right now I am a Development Associate at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre where I help fundraise shows as well as throw exciting events such as parties, galas, and such for big donors to showcase our theatrical talent. During the interview they were super impressed by my ability to be the first ever playwright to have their own work produced at UWF, my ability to manage being the playwright, director and producer, filing and gaining grants due to my writing skills, and being able to help in every department (lighting, props, set) when it came down to it. The executive director at the Maltz was a former producer for Broadway shows so he loved how I was able to manage as well as help others no matter what. Btw, I love my job!!!”

✨💡🎆 This weeks OUR social media spotlight is Kaitlyn Stephens 🎆💡✨

Kaitlyn is a Biochemistry Political Science Major with a Minor in International Relations, and is mentored by Dr. Jacob Shively. Below, Kaitlyn describes how she got involved with research and what is next for her and her project!

“I got involved with my research project through Mrs. Emily Harris. As a freshman, I took Environmental Science with her and she mentioned OUR frequently and I was really interested. She always answered my questions and emails and set up an informational meeting with me which really helped me get set up. From there, I took her advice to reach out to faculty in my department who’s research I was interested in, held Zoom meetings with them, and reached out to the professor I thought I would work best with and have the most interest in. I reached out to many professors, asked questions about their past research projects and their current ones, and which projects I could possibly help with.”

“I am not working on my research project this semester because I just have too much coursework, but it would have been an individual directed study anyway because my mentor is focusing on a book he is writing. I actually am going to hopefully study abroad next semester, and I considered Sweden- the topic of my project, but decided against it because of the Russo-Ukrainian war. But it was really cool that I had the opportunity to study there where I have learned so much about the place already. I do have a conference planned in January to present my research paper at the Florida Political Science Association annual conference, and if I am not studying abroad then I will present at the SPSA annual conference in March. My future plans for my research may not happen until summer, but I definitely want to do the OUR summer program again! It was an amazing experience and hard work but also very rewarding."

Did you know that offers access to specialized computer apps? ArgoApps are hosted apps & virtual desktops that allow UWF students, faculty, and staff to access specialized apps (such as Adobe photoshop, Microsoft office, SPSS, and MATLAB) via the Internet.

There are two ways to access ArgoApps. One option is ArgoApps Lite, which can be accessed by searching for 'ArgoApps' in my.uwf.edu or visiting argoapps.uwf.edu. The other option is the Citrix Workspace App which has more features. You must download, install, and configure the Citrix Workspace App; but once completed you no longer need to go to the uwf website to access ArgoApps. Simply launch the Citrix Workspace App from your own computer. For help installing the Citrix Workspace App, please visit here: https://bit.ly/HelpCitrixApp.
