In my element. The first session of our watercolor class was a smashing success! We discussed the importance of quality paper and paints, made swatches, worked on our color wheel, learned about mixing cool vs. warm colors, and learned some fun techniques: wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brushing, bleeding, blending, resists, and so much more!

Sometimes being an artist looks like this. There are so many parts to having a business, and so many directions you can take. Juniper Wren's Nest has changed and evolved so much over the last 4 years. From prints, tee-shirts, and digital downloads, to working with a marketer to wholesale my merch to non-profits. My 3" manatee button magnets and stickers will be finding their home in Crystal River next week!
I still sell to the public and my website is filled with originals, prints, cards, and stickers...but it feels good to branch out and support our local wildlife! Here's to the next chapter!

Shadow and light. You need both for dimension. You can't have one without the other. I struggle, florals are so tedious and I get lost in the petals, the shadow, the light. Where they meet and merge, where they stand apart. The first image is the one I did yesterday, the second I did months ago. Hopefully with practice I can improve and one day add color.

Meet Nora and Bubba. This was a super special pet portrait in memory of my close friend's fur baby. Bubba was the prettiest dog and the floofiest one I've painted. I hope this helps heal their hearts. 💕 Also, this is only my second human face to paint. Definitely intimidating!on.mission

Have you seen the beautiful image by Beautiful Moments Photography by BeBe, of the manatee herd at Navarre Beach? It's the coolest. BeBe Booth is amazing and lets me use her images to paint. She is such an inspiration! I just had to paint our emerald waters with the majestic sea cows swimming through.

Haven't flattened my paper yet, but here's the Mobile Delta with blue skies! Practice, practice. This was on hot press, and was definitely a challenge.

Working on stormy landscapes of late. Praying for rain for my garden. It's hot in Florida! What kind of art do you typically hang on your wall? Though I love painting animals best, I prefer landscapes or abstracts in my decor. Mostly neutrals.

Meet Roo! My latest pet portrait. Years ago I only painted birds and flowers. I had no idea I could paint cats, dogs, foxes, raccoons and other mammals. I was really nervous trying fur, so I practiced painting my cats first. Everyone was so supportive, I really appreciate all of you cheering me on. Come to find out, fur isn't much different from feathers. You never know if you can do something until you try. Push yourself out of your comfort zone...no matter what it is. It doesn't have to be art. 💜

I never thought a possum would be my favorite...especially since I've caught them in my coop, but this three pawed baby is by far the cutest possum I've seen. Everyone meet Peggy, the newest ambassador at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge! Kinda sad for these wild baby paintings to come to an end. I didn't expect to have so much fun. 😍

It took quite a bit longer to paint than I expected, so the lighting is pretty poor. Also, got a tad bit messy.

All of the Wildlife Refuge paintings will be available as prints, postcards, greeting cards, and stickers. The originals will also be for sale. They are 5x7.

First time painting a human portrait in watercolor. Sorta cheating since I'm missing half of my face and my eyes and mouth are closed. It was difficult enough as it was. I will say I'm not a fan of this paper. I'll go back to Arches. The paper started peeling when I tried to remove paint with a wet brush. Anyways this is Mango. The sweetest and prettiest chicken. She lays gorgeous blue eggs for us. I love her soft brown eyes and fuzzy ear tufts. Our sweet Gertie actually hatched her.
