Pantries, community meals, food boxes - all are part of the safety net for our neighbors in need. The Madison County Health Department has created an interactive map to help navigate hunger. If your organization wants to serve, this is also a great map to help you get connected.

The Animal Protection League Inc., Indiana received the very first Open Hearts, Open Purses grant in 2010. This grant helped to support the protection league's F.I.D.O program. This program allows inmates to socialize with the dogs as well as train them, and the dogs give the inmates unconditional love. After a dog has went through he F.I.D.O. program, they are up for adoption!

In 2011, Open Hearts, Open Purses brought Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to South Madison County. The South Madison Community Foundation was a proud affiliate for an entire decade, and paid the annual enrollment fee. This program brought books to children birth to age five for free!

South Madison Fire Territory received the 2012 Open Hearts, Open Purses grant. This grant helped the fire department to purchase cribbing equipment to help with extricating passengers despite critical challenges.

Lapel Stony Creek Twp. Fire Territory received the 2013 Open Hearts, Open Purses grant. This grant helped to purchase a new thermal imaging camera that is used to detect temperature or heat and displays it as a color map. This helped firefighters see people that need rescued despite the smoke or darkness!
