Restore celebrates Black History Month while bringing attention to the need for more representation in our field. Black physical therapists make up less than 5% of the practicing PTs in the US. This underrepresentation raises concerns about the profession's ability to provide culturally competent care and meet the diverse needs of the population it serves. To effectively address the diverse needs of patients within the physical therapy profession, initiatives must start within educational institutions.*
Recruiters and Regional Directors work within our communities and with our local university PT/OT/SLP programs to ensure students are provided with the knowledge of career paths in rehabilitative therapies.
Visit the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) to learn about influential Black PTs who have made a difference in our field like Mary McKinney Edmonds, PT, DSc, PhD, FAPTA. On creating pathways for more PTs from minority populations:
"How you do that is to get them motivated really early and keep them from being shuffled into vocational programs and programs that are not going to get them there, and also to get into the community colleges and get them on the proper tracks."
Mary McKinney Edmonds founded Cleveland State University's physical therapy program, was dean of Bowling Green State University's College of Health and Community Services, and was vice provost at Stanford University, as well as a professor at Stanford Medical School. During her career she mentored many PTs.

Thinking of a career in Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy?
The Bureau of Labor reports employment of rehabilitation therapists is predicted to grow 17% between 2023 and 2033. With the Baby Boomer generation aging, many are looking to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Restore is partnered with college and university PT, OT, and SLP programs across the south. We also provide mentorship, continued education, and pathways for growth and success within the company for all our therapists.

Happy Snow Day from at Aspire Cahaba and their
therapy team snowman Ann Darlene Latham aka "ADL".
"She brought so much joy to us!"

I started with Restore on August 3, 2003, and this was only my third job as a PTA. I was asked to memorize "a community of professionals committed to excellence in service" before I went for orientation at the home office. This has stayed with me for the twenty-one-plus years that I have been with Restore.
My son had muscular dystrophy, and the community of Restore employees/family rallied together and donated 300 hours of PTO so that I could spend his last days with my family and then days after to have time to grieve.
In 2012, my husband suffered a TBI, and again, this community donated PTO for me to be able to be with my husband until he was stable and able to be home so that I could return to work. I've learned that the only constant in life is change.
Restore has done an excellent job of getting ahead of and keeping up with the changes in healthcare, legislation, and technology and preparing us so that we can make the transition as smooth as possible to continue to provide excellent care to our residents that we are known for. I love the way that Restore leadership wants us to be successful, and from day one, they provide the tools through education and support to make that happen. It's a continual learning process, not just a one-and-done one.
I am very proud and honored to work for such a great company that cares for its employees and cares about the quality of service it provides.

We need your help in advocating for an extension to the telehealth authority and Congressional action to mitigate the Physician Fee Schedule Cuts finalized by CMS.
The end-of-year package that Congressional leadership recently negotiated has collapsed, with passage facing extreme uncertainty. It is imperative that Congress hears from their constituents to address provider relief and extend the telehealth authority before January 1st. If Congress does not take action on telehealth and the cuts in the Physician Fee Schedule by December 31st:
1. Therapists’ ability to use telehealth to deliver services under Medicare Part B will cease on January 1st.
2. The full -2.83% reduction in the Physician Fee Schedule’s Conversion Factor will take effect.
Our advocacy organization in Washington, ADVION, has created an easy way for you to take action and advocate for your patients to help ward off the cuts and restore our ability to utilize telehealth.
Please visit: https://www.votervoice.net/ADVION/Campaigns/119714/Respond to email Congress and make sure your voice is heard. Additionally, PHONE CALLS to offices will be particularly impactful right now. You can call your Members of Congress’ offices through the Capitol Switchboard, at (202) 224-3121, or find their phone numbers through the House and Senate websites.
Please use the template email as a phone call script.
Thank you for your dedication to our organization and your patients.
