Utah Bird Dog Training

In a perfect world the ducks always land right out in front of you and your dog sees it goes down. Unfortunately that just doesn’t happen. The ducks go down in some heavy brush or grass and your dog needs to get in there to really dig that bird out! Practice those scenarios and you’ll be ready!

Tyce took Boss and Ticket to their first HRC hunt test today.

They just recently started holding tests here in Utah, so it was fun to finally get the opportunity to go run one. Tyce ran Ticket in Seasoned and Boss in Finished, and the three of them came away with two ribbons and a really good first experience running HRC.

I don’t often get to go watch during hunt tests with our young family, so it was extra special to have most of the kids there with us today. And it definitely confirmed that if we want any video of training or testing… I need to be the one there to get it.

These ribbons are just one small step toward titles, but they represent hundreds of hours of time spent training and working together.

Really fun day getting to watch Tyce do what he’s great at.

If you’re working your puppy before they come to us around 6 months old — don’t burn them out.

When fatigue shows up, the session should end.

Short, successful sessions build drive. Pushing for “one more” often does the opposite.

Read the dog. Finish on a win. Come back tomorrow.

Nothing like the memories made out in the field hunting with your dog. The friends, the family, and watching your dog work… we just don’t know if they actually made the shot 🤪
