A friend’s honest love
Have you ever struggled to discern between genuine friends and deceptive enemies? Proverbs 27:6 reminds us, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” Paul experienced this with the Galatians. Once bonded in faith, they turned on him after false teachers spread lies. Though Paul spoke truth in love, they saw him as an enemy. But the truth—however uncomfortable—is essential for growth.

Sometimes the people who challenge us most are the ones who love us best. Truth can pierce, but it also frees. We need the kind of friends who help expose darkness, not hide it. And we’re called to be that kind of friend too—loving enough to speak honestly, faithfully, and prayerfully.

Don’t fear the wound of truth. It may just lead to healing.
