So true! I have some AMAZING clients doing “small consistent changes”. You know who you are.😉

Small consistent changes add up to big results!⠀

Here’s the deal. Completely overhauling your habits or lifestyle overnight does not work for most people. While you might be motivated and excited right now if you try to change too much at once, you’ll most likely crash and burn and give up eventually!⠀

Our goal is to set you up for success as much as possible. That’s why just committing to a small change or two over the next 30 days can lead to a huge impact later on down the road. There’s something called the snowball effect. Once you start to get good habits in motion and build confidence, they’ll have an avalanche effect on your life later on. We want you to know that feeling!⠀

Some small changes you can make to nutrition right now:⠀
1️⃣ Swap out sugary soda or a sugary drink (fruit juices) for water.⠀
2️⃣ Swap out a high calorie, highly processed lunch for a big, nutritious salad.⠀
3️⃣ Opt for veggie sides or side salads instead of something more processed like fries or chips.

There are reasons for these symptoms, and when we tap into the root cause we can prevent and even reverse them and feel youthful despite our age. We can do that using the principles of Functional Medicine, as well as the power of biohacking our biology. ⁣

I don’t know about you, but I plan to live to be at least 120 and to feel well while I do it. I’d like my kids to do the same, but even longer. The same goes for all the other future generations. And I strongly believe it’s possible. ⁣

In fact, I have actually experienced the possibilities of aging backwards—I feel better now, at 61, than I did at 31. That’s because I’m always researching and experimenting on myself to find ways of reversing the symptoms associated with aging (and it’s working!). ⁣

There are certain basic principles we can follow to dramatically improve our healthspan and lifespan right away. ⁣

For example, we know that eating more vegetables and fruits is associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality, especially cardiovascular risk which is important to note, considering that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US. ⁣

We also know that for every 10% increase of ultra-processed foods in our diets we see a 14% increased risk for all-cause mortality. Junk food is also linked to psychological distress. ⁣

While I always look to food first when it comes to promoting optimal health, there’s so much more to longevity than eating more plants. There are so many nuances to diet, like consuming more polyphenol-rich foods to fight oxidative stress and support the gut microbiome, as well as factoring in when to eat instead of just what to eat. ⁣

And of course, if we’re thinking about expanding longevity we have to think beyond diet. We have to think about how we move our bodies, take care of our minds, and even how we nurture our relationships. ⁣

Which category do you fit in when it comes to alcohol consumption?

The simple truth is that alcohol is likely not “good” for anyone. All of the benefits of red wine, such as resveratrol, can be found in other foods and supplements.⁣

Women are even more impacted by the deleterious effects of alcohol than men. There are studies linking alcohol consumption to breast cancer. It depletes nutrients and harms your gut, your liver, and your brain. ⁣

I’ve been wearing an Oura ring, which tracks my sleep every night. If I drink alcohol, I notice that it takes me twice as long to fall asleep, my heart rate stays elevated into the night, and I don’t feel great the next day. ⁣

While it might make you feel more relaxed to have a glass of wine at night, I think you’d be sur- prised to see what alcohol does to your body while sleeping. Sleep is when we detoxify and repair; we don’t need to make it harder by adding alcohol, a toxin, to the mix.⁣

I treat alcohol like I treat sugar: An occasional glass is fine, but daily can be problematic. Stick to one serving three or four times a week at most.⁣

A serving is 1 ounce of hard liquor, 5 ounces of wine, or 10 ounces of beer. If you don’t feel great drinking alcohol, skip it altogether. ⁣

There is no shame in telling people that you don’t drink. If someone peer pressures you, be firm about saying no, and tell them that you’ve been feeling really good while not drinking. No one can argue with that. ⁣

If you have people cheering you on, holding you accountable, and walking the walk with you, you’re much more likely to make positive changes. ⁣

People who make New Year’s resolutions are more likely to stick to them two or even six years later when they have social support. Don’t go at it alone. Enlist the help of at least one friend. ⁣

Every body needs a buddy! Tag someone below who cheers you on. ⁣

I used to think I didn’t have time for meditation but now I know I don’t have time NOT to do it—it’s become that integral in helping me manage all of my other many responsibilities and passions. Since starting, I’m happier than ever, have found the love of my life, and my business is rocking.⁣⁣⁣

There are so many resources out there to get started on meditating such as apps, videos online, and my dear friend Emily Fletcher’s book Stress Less, Accomplish More. ⁣⁣
