Here Kitty Kitty, NJ

Here Kitty Kitty, NJ

Comments

Say hello to Henry! Henry is a 16yr old permanent resident of Here Kitty Kitty. Henry was adopted at 12 weeks old but was returned 8yrs later because of behavioral issues due to depression after his girlfriend passed away. Henry lost an eye due to a ruptured cornea. It doesn’t slow him down one bit.
Kaleidie, short for Kaleidoscope, is the sister of Bagheera who can be found in a post of his own. Kaleidie is 1yr old, Negative for FiV, Feline Leukemia and will be UTD upon adoption. Kaleidie does not have to be adopted with Bagheera.
Francis was rescued from death row in a high kill shelter a day before his scheduled euthanasia. Francis is approximately 6yrs old. He is gentle, sweet and affectionate. Francis is negative FiV, Feline Leukemia and will be UTD upon adoption.
Gorgeous Bagheera is a mini panther. Stunningly, handsome Oriental Short-haired mix. Bagheera, is a year old extra special boy and one of our beauties up for adoption at Here Kitty Kitty.
Nikko was 6 months old when rescued from a home in Paterson, NJ where he was not wanted because he was no longer a cute little kitten. Most people know that if you play rough with a kitten you are going to get a cat with aggression towards petting, which was the case with Nikko. The family also told us that the family dog hated Nikko and was always trying to attack him. So, on a very hot Summer day we rescued this tiny terror.

Back at the cattery we did notice that Nikko wouldn’t tolerate being held and after a few pets he would start to nip. We also observed some aggression towards a few of the cats but Nikko did show show very well at adoption events. He would allow petting and a lot of folks were interested. One couple fell madly in love with Nikko. I did tell them about his behavioral issues and they promised to work with Nikko and give him lots of love.

Six months went by when We got the call that Nikko was not working out. So back Nikko came. He was with us for a year and that's when Nikko made a wonderful friend in Wally, KarenMarie’s husband. After a few months KarenMarie and Wally took Nikko home to foster and to work on some of his issues. Nikko was doing well for quite some time, until a foster dog entered the picture and although the dog was cat friendly, Nikko’s past caused stress to the point that his behavioral issues returned along with a urinary tract infection that ended up as a blockage. 36 hours in hospital and $2,600 later, Nikko came home and is recuperating in a dog free home.

Nikko is doing really well and coming along wonderfully. And look at him. He is dreamy!!!

(P.S. - I think I might keep him!!!)
Hello! I need help with some outdoor adult cats. I have 3 outside. Two girls and one boy. I feed them every day they are feral. Luckily I have my own house and a humongous yard. I would like to trap and neuter/spay them and keep them in my yard. I will build homes for them. I just dont wang them to keep reproducing. (One girl has given birth 4 times and I am stuck giving cats away) I have 4 of my own inside, so I cannot keep inside. Can anyone help me?

Blink 182 (his original name) did a 360 and got adopted and returned through absolutely no fault of his own. This guy just can't get a break! Time to get our blue-eyed boy the best home ever!

Blink is about 2 years old and he's a husky mix that's been waiting since December 2022 for a home. Blink is all happy-puppy and he's full of fun and energy! He'll need a home where he can get exercise, run, play, then plop down beside you for attention. Blink is a strong, smart guy that knows how to behave perfectly, he just needs a family that will ensure he behaves and doesn't let him walk all over them. He definitely knows how to be a good boy! Blink needs a home with no cats or small dogs, but he's happy to meet larger dogs. He'll also need a home with no small kids. He would never intentionally hurt someone but he could inadvertently knock a child over. He's going to bring so much fun and happiness to the good family that welcomes him home if he could just get the chance! Call 609-693-1900 or email: [email protected] for an application.

Need advise.

I have a kitty that was diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmer. This kitten is 4 months old and was going to get spayed when I received a call from the clinic telling me the news. Needless to say she was not spayed or anything else.

I did call her new owner and she is devastated.

Question????
What can be done for this little sweetie? I have had several cats and kittens with heart murmers but not as high a grade 4.

Hello, my name is Bruce. My animal id is #175154. I am a desexed male black cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 months 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/6/2023, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already.

Bruce is at risk for behavior reasons. Although he has always been shy in the care center. Bruce has recently escalated to spitting and swatting at staff when passing by his kennel. He would need a home with a experienced owner, in an adult only home. Medically, Bruce is apparently healthy.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 09.08.2023
Bruce was in the back of his cubby upon approach. He had dilated pupils and was flattened out slightly. Staff assisted VS in placing Bruce into a den for exam. He was tense while picking him up but remained calm while placing him in den.

09.17.2023
Bruce was pressed up against the back of his cubby upon approach. He hissed when staff member approached. He remained in his cubby moving away from staff as they cleaned his kennel.

09.19.23
Bruce was in his cubby when entering the room. When staff approached he began to hiss. Staff attempted negative reinforcement and waited for him to stop hissing. Staff looked away while he continued to hiss. He then came forward spitting and swatting towards staff member. The cubby was closed off the give him time to settle as staff serviced his kennel and temptations were left for him when the door was reopened. when staff came back to check the treats were gone.

09.21.23
Upon approach, Bruce was sitting and hissing in his cubby. As a staff member stood in front of his kennel, he jumped out of the cubby and began to swat. His pupils were dilated and he was spitting. An extendable scratcher with a treat on it was offered, Bruce continued to hiss and swat at the scratcher. The interaction was ended there to prevent further FAS.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Shy ,Independent,Skittish,Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Adult cat socialization,New home adjustment period,Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Bruce has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Bruce was hiding in his cubby upon approach. When the door was opened he hissed at assessor and lowered his head to hide behind his litter box. A finger was extended to greet him and he he sniffed and moved away. He tolerated touch on the top of his head but would close his eyes and tightened his tail around his body. He was given a HVT but would move away from it. It was left in his kennel for later.

Bruce is an adult cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He is very apprehensive of people and while showing no aggressive behaviors, she does attempt to flee and avoid human contact. It is difficult to predict if he will respond to socialization but we recommend offering high value treats and food to help build a positive association to humans. Please be mindful that older cats will require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people.

I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.

Brooklyn Center

Carmello 179493

9M | Female | 4lbs | O/S

Hello, my name is Carmello. My animal id is #179493. I am a desexed female black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 8/11/2023, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- hoarding situation.

Carmello is on the emergency placement list due to her behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me:
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!
It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children.
I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.
