Last weekend Rho Tau Zeta Chapter participated in a Community Baby Shower hosted by the Clifton Health Department. Special thank you to our sisters of Gamma Omicron Zeta for providing Stork's Nest resources and literature.

Sorors of Rho Tau Zeta joined our sister Greeks of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Pi Xi Omega Chapter for their inaugural Mother's Day Brunch and Scholarship fundraiser with their 501(c)3, Silk City Pearls.

The Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated mourn the loss of our sorority sister, legendary opera singer Grace Bumbry, who transitioned yesterday at age 86. Her impact on the music world, specifically the opera community, will never be forgotten.

Bumbry was a member of a pioneering generation of African-American opera and classical singers in the worlds of opera and classical music and helped pave the way for future generations of African-American opera and concert singers.

Bumbry graduated from the prestigious Charles Sumner High School, the first black high school west of the Mississippi. Her voice teacher Kenneth Billups praised her for her “vocal prowess” and urged her to enter a teen talent contest sponsored by St. Louis radio station KMOX. She would win the contest, which included a $1,000 war bond, a trip to New York, and a scholarship to the St. Louis Institute of Music. However, the institute did not accept her because she was black. However, the concert promoters arranged that she appear on Arthur Godfrey’s nationally televised Talent Scouts program, singing Verdi’s aria “O don fatale.” That performance allowed her to enter Boston University College of Fine Arts, and she later transferred to Northwestern University.

Her operatic debut came in 1960 as Amneris at the Paris Opéra. At the age of 24, she gained international recognition when she sang as Venus in “Tannhäuser” at Bayreuth and became the first black singer to appear at the famed festival. She received a 30-minute ovation for her performance there, including 42 curtain calls.
Bumbry went on to debut at every major opera house.

In the 1990s, she founded and toured with the Grace Bumbry Black Musical Heritage Ensemble, a group devoted to preserving and performing traditional Negro spirituals.

With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.

At March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.

Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!

Other startling facts:

💙 Over the next decade, an estimated 707,000 to 1,116,000 teens (70,700 to 111,600 each year) will enter adulthood and age out of school-based autism services.

💙 Nearly half of the 25-year-olds with autism have never held a paying job.

💙 Children with autism are eight times more likely to have gastrointestinal problems and other dietary challenges.

💙 The rate of autism diagnoses has increased since 2016. Currently, there are 1 in 54 children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Even though ASK can be diagnosed as early as two years old, most children are not diagnosed until after age four.
