Today, we roll out the latest installment of our "From the Farm: Virtual Field Trip" series at Crooked Creek Beef in Pacific! In Part II of this cattle farm visit, Jennifer Poindexter, MOFB's Director of Promotion and Education, speaks with owner/operator Bill McLaren, his wife Linda, and farm manager Cody Meyer about their company's operations and how they help put food on tables throughout the region.

This series of virtual field trips is perfect for 4th through 6th grade students but can be used in any classroom - virtual or in-person.

Our trio of cows who are pregnant with twins are getting closer. We brought them up to the barn to keep an extra close eye on them while calving. Any guesses on what percent of cows have twins?

Farm life during the summer involves baling hay to feed to our cows during the winter months. It took all hands on deck to get our hay baled. Now that the haybarns are full and the haystacks covered, we are ready for some cooler weather!

One of our favorite cows, 900, had her second calf this morning! Her heifer’s number will be 290. 900 and her new calf will be part of the Ag Exhibit during The Science Center’s Great Outdoor Expo on Saturday May 21st. Please come visit us at the Science Center between 9:30&4:30.

This week we had our veterinarian out to pregnancy test our fall calving group of cows. We confirmed we will be having lots of calves due to arrive in September and October. We also found out that we have three cows expecting twins! Here is the ultrasound video of one of the cows pregnant with twins.

Hasn’t this weather been great!? We have still been able to have most of our groups out grazing stockpiled forages. In the next month or so hay will be on the menu. We will be feeding the hay bales in this hay stack, any guesses on how many bales are in this stack??

Sometimes on a Monday, everything seems to go backwards. That seemed to be the case this morning when we vaccinated calves. This little guy even decided to come up the chute backwards 🙃

Spring has officially sprung on the farm!
In the past few weeks we have started grazing all of this new lush grass. Once a paddock has been grazed, we will rotate the group of cows to a new paddock. The paddock that was just grazed will then have at least a four week rest period. The paddock in the video was last grazed in January.
