Hmmmmm. I have the impression somebody's been screwing around
A nice traditional mantle, I think Zakk built this while I was doing Nate stuff on the other side of the house ( I do like napping ๐).
Here's a few pic of a staircase we recently finished up, this one kinda stressed me out, it had a few design quirks that had to be contended with. But in the end I think it still turned out nice.
I always forget to post stuff, I seem to get done, move on to the next and forget the last.
We finished these about a month ago. Kinda interesting, the client wanted them to resemble his Martin D28 guitar, so I built the fronts out of Sitka Spruce with Indian rosewood for the sides, backs and tops, I then sourced Martins inlays to follow around the breaks. The client was so thrilled when Custom audio loudspeaker delivered them that he promptly pulled his guitar and stand out and set it up between the pair.
Here's a couple of pics of a Mudroom Locker bench we recently finished, this thing is over 9' tall and I believe 103 97/120 wide if memory serves (๐). With a nice little hidden compartment so you can hide your car keys, over due bills or even that special piece of junk mail.
Again big thanks to Zachary Graham and Jon Wilson, where would I be without their help?
Interesting
This was a nice little project, a local church contacted us in need of a "frontal" or two. I really couldn't be more pleased with how nicely it turned out both ascetically and functionally (the kneelers were really stressing me out).
Red oak with a lacquer finish.
No one was hurt during this glue up and that hole that closely resembles my right knee was here when I showed up ๐๐
Another one down, the great thing about custom homes is each one poses new challenges, the basement stair has wall to wall curved wood treads (that was a head scratcher), the dining has a circle crown detail (more head scratching), and the kitchen granite island detail (scratch, scratch, scratch). No wonder I'm bald. I think it turned out really nice. Again, hats off to Zachary Graham and Jon Wilson for doing their best to get us there,
I would just like to take a moment of your time to spout off about something, I was at Lily's soccer game this morning and someone approached Zakk and I talking about how their getting new cabinets for their kitchen in the near future, She went on to explain that she couldn't afford to have us build them for her because she intends on selling her house in the near future and did not want to spend that much money. Completely understandable, except for one tiny detail she never asked how much we would charge to build these cabinets.
This is something I hear quite a bit, people just assuming that because we build custom cabinets our prices must be outlandish, so I would like to ask of you to not make assumptions, but to pick up the phone and call your local craftsperson and ask for a ballpark price before you obligate yourself to the big company's, you maybe surprised at what they have to say.
My branding iron has arrived!!! Zakk and Jon are not going to be happy, do I put it on their upper arms or their butts???
Just received 150 new pencils, My moneys on me losing them all by the end of the week ๐๐
I have to say I throughly enjoyed building this little project. It's a little (25"x36" closed, 25"x 50" open) movable island featuring 2 drawers and slat shelving made from beech. The top is made from beech as well. The structure is mortised and tenoned together providing for apocalyptic survival, I also hand cut the dovetailed drawers just to keep my practice up, She's strong like bull.
Sunday fun day my asterisk. It looks more like "Sunday sand day" to me. ๐๐
Trying to get the beam stock for our living room sanded, dyed and stained today
What a great way to pass the afternoon.
Hand cutting drawer joints with a nice breeze. Oh and let's not forget 110 decibels of Motรถrhead.
Starting from less then zero
Generally speaking a carpenter starts a stair like this with a template for the organic curved treads that the framer has graciously left behind, more then likely it won't work for our level of precision, but it's a good place to start, this was the exception, all I can say is I think when I was done I left a slightly better carpenter,
Classic Audio Loudspeaker has decided to experiment with a smaller speaker (8") and has tasked me to design a few options, this one was more or less their design while the sets that are presently in the wings are mine, this set was mitered front, top, bottom and sides all the while keeping the grain as continuous as the slab I cut it out with would allow and they have to be a matching set, Good gravy, I think these little guys are more work then their bigger siblings.๐๐๐
