Comments

To relieve a lot of ancillary congestion on 69 and 135th and 119th, it would make a lof of sense to consider an overpass to connect 127th street over 69 without the need for entrance/exit ramps. A more expensive project than 133rd street overpass was but with recent infrastructure funds available, now would be a good time to consider this.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will build 11 noise walls as part of the U.S. 69 Expansion Project.

In a vote, a majority of residents and businesses in the area approved of the walls, which will be built from 119th to 151st streets.

The proposed 2023-2027 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) has been presented to the City Council.

The CIP details plans and funding for some of OP's biggest upcoming projects including:

-Building a Visitor Center at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
-Improving Metcalf between 91st and 99th streets
-Funding for 69 Express
-Purchasing a new fire truck

City Council meets at City Hall tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

The agenda includes a public hearing on a substantially changed Bluhawk STAR Bond project plan, a grant for Visit Overland Park to assist in tourism and hospitality recovery, and a joint resolution with Kansas Department of Transportation related to construction of 69 Express toll lanes.

The City Council Committee of the Whole meets tomorrow at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Q: How will the #69Express project enhance transit, bikeability and walkability in the corridor and beyond? 🚴 🚉 🚶

A: The express lanes solution would permit transit vehicles to use the express lanes at a reduced toll rate. This would allow individual transit riders to access a reliable trip at a low or no cost. KDOT anticipates that any hike/bike paths or sidewalks affected by project construction would be restored as part of the project.

Additionally, connectivity across U.S. 69, which can be a barrier to pedestrians and cyclists, would be improved at the various cross streets that do not have sidewalks or hike/bike facilities. Bike lanes on the arterial streets that cross U.S. 69 would be evaluated using the City’s criteria.
