Welcome back, Pumpkin 🥺
One of the hardest things we go through in rescue is when one of our dogs gets returned to us.
To be clear, the overwhelming majority of the time, surrendering a dog is an extremely hard decision for the owners. And of course we are thankful when adopters reach back out to us!
But, there are other times when it just doesn’t make any sense… This is one of those times.
Pumpkin girl was returned to us stinky, crusty tail, overweight. 😭 When she got returned and we asked if they wanted to say goodbye, the family said no, that they’d been done with her for awhile. 💔💔💔
We are thankful to have her back in our care so we can get it right for her this next time around! Thank you to Joei and family for taking her back in to foster again! 🙏🏼

Happy birthday, Hailey!!! 🥳
Help us wish Hailey a happy birthday! We met Hailey at an adoption event and her passion for dog rescue was clear from that first moment.
She has since joined our adoption team and helps with calls, meets and Petfinder profile magic! 👏🏼
Her love for the animals is pure and genuine. We are so grateful for all her help!
Happy birthday girl!!! 💜🎂

Two besties, bonding over their longing for forever homes 🥹
Herald and Oliver are being fostered by the same incredible foster momma, and they’re loving it!
Herald 🥹 This gentleman came from West Point in Mississippi. They rescued him and nurtured him back to health - his skin was literally falling off, not to mention he was emaciated… we pulled him and got him treated for heartworm!
⚡️ 5.5 years
⚡️ 70 lbs
⚡️ Coonhound (we’re supposed to say mix, but I mean, look at him)
⚡️ Will sleep all day 💤🤣
⚡️ No cats
Oliver 💙 This handsome fellow was a dog we fell in love with at AACC in March 2025. We pulled him, and he actually got adopted pretty quickly. When he was being returned due to medical concerns with his adoptive family, his foster didn’t hesitate to take him back in - despite already fostering Herald too! 🥹👏🏼
⚡️ 5.5 years
⚡️ 45 lbs
⚡️ Estimated as pit/hound mix
⚡️ Great in the car
⚡️ Loves to play
These lover boys do NOT have to be adopted together - they’re both just lucky enough to be fostered by the same magical person. 🪄🪄
Please help us find these guys homes. 🙏🏼 We truly believe every share helps.

It’s not Sunday, but don’t hold it against us! 🤷🏼♀️
We have five recently adopted dogs to share with you all and there are some super special stories here 🥹
Princess Helga came to us as a senior from AACC. Her owner had become unhoused, and we tried our best to work with the owner to reunite them but it didn’t work out. She had over $2,000 worth of vet care done while with us! 🤯
Xena was surrendered to us by her owner and fostered by Hope, manager at Pet Place, and her family. 🫶🏼 They fell head over heels for her and did SO much to help her growth.
Zoran and Serena got adopted by the same family!!! 😮 Zoran was absolutely skin and bones and a true rescue dog story. Seeing him go from that skinny, neglected boy to finding his forever home is so rewarding!
Lucy was adopted by her foster family! ☀️ Funny enough, they had intended to foster a different dog but fostered her anyways and still fell in love. Truly meant to be! 🥰
Congratulations to all the dogs and their new families, and thank you to all the fosters! 🩵🩵🩵

Doggie heaven gained a beautiful angel this weekend 🐾❤️🩹
Dexter arrived to us from Mississippi for his chance to find a forever home. But he began to show some concerning symptoms and his bloodwork showed us that he had a tick borne illness known as Candidatus Mycoplasma Haematoparvum. This illness quickly deteriorated his health, and he took a turn for the worst. On Saturday, we made the heartbreaking decision to give him peace from the body that was failing him. 😭😭
We are very thankful for our vet coordinator, Audrey, and the team at Oswego Animal Hospital who helped us care for him. 🫶🏼 We know you poured your hearts into this guy and did everything you could.
Dexter’s foster momma wrote this beautiful tribute to him:
“Fostering is magical, and meaningful, and humbling, and sometimes utterly heartbreaking. We always deal with the fact that we know the foster will be moving on, but usually we get to happy-cry celebrate as they leave for their forever home. Dexter didn’t get that far, and though we were meant to be just his fosters, when he got sick, he became ours for his forever. For the 2 months we were lucky to know and love Dexter, he made friends with every single dog and human he met. He was SILLY, exuberant, and full of kisses.
Yesterday, we knew it was time to let him rest because his body just wasn’t fighting anymore. Max took him on a little wagon ride around the culdesac. It was the first time in a long time he lifted up his head to look around. He went peacefully, between me and Max, and knew every moment that he was loved. Because of amazing rescues taking a chance on every single dog, he didn’t get sick and spend his last days alone at a shelter. He knew love. He knew family. We’re so, so grateful for the time we had with him. ❤️“
There aren’t enough words to thank Melody and her family for all the love and compassion they gave Dexter. While he technically didn’t find his adoptive home, he absolutely became a part of their family. 💙🪽
RIP Sweet Dexter 🙏🏼
