I’m deeply honored to have received a 2024 Momentum Maker Award from the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce! This recognition means so much to me and the entire Dr Lisa team. Our mission has always been to create inclusive and inspiring products that celebrate the beauty of diversity, and this award affirms the impact of our work.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to President Donna DeBerry and Bruce Mayberry for their incredible leadership and dedication to fostering an environment where businesses like ours can thrive and grow. Their support and commitment to the community makes all the difference.
This recognition is also a testament to the incredible efforts of my amazing team, who pour their passion into their work every day. The Toy Insider recently announced their Top Summer Toys for 2024 and 2 collections from the Dr. Lisa Brands have been chosen as winners for the 0-2 age category!

The 2023 Best Toy Awards for took place recently, and the Dr. Lisa Company is delighted and honored to announce that the Fresh Fairy Collection was selected as this year’s winner for the ages 3+ to 5+ category!
Out of 300 toy submissions, experts at Good Housekeeping Institute assessed safety, durability, and developmental benefits of each toy before testing them with children ages newborn to 18 to determine each toy's fun factor. Per Good Housekeeping, “the resulting list of winners are toys that parents loved, experts recommended, and kids went back to again and again.”
We’re extremely proud of this accomplishment and can’t wait to see what else is in store for 2023 and beyond.

My Journey into the Toy Industry
My journey started down the furthest road away from the toy industry. My background was in supply-chain management if you can believe that! After graduating from Ohio State with a PhD in business, I went on to not only teach at Ohio State but then continued my journey. I had moved on to teach at Penn State which I eventually left. After Penn State, I was recruited by the University of Arkansas. There, I received an endowed chair also funded by Wal-Mart.
I didn’t know anything about dolls! I didn’t know what they were made from, how long it takes to make them, I knew nothing! What I had was the desire to produce a product that would uplift the self-esteem of our little girls. From that vision I worked to find manufacturers and learn. I researched how to do it.
Fresh dolls are an extension of the Positively Perfect Doll Collection. Positively Perfect Dolls were made for young children. Like Fresh Dolls, they too, come in a variety of skin tones, hair textures and fashions.
The Fresh line, was born from the desire to provide an empowering doll for older children. As children grew from Positively Perfect, I wanted them to have a “Fresh” reminder of their beauty and brilliance. The Fresh Squad soon followed. They were created for a little boys. The Squad are action figures with fashions. Now little boys can see their power and brilliance reflected back to them in positive play, too.
