Skipping the fertilizer costs nothing but would make a huge difference for the health of our springs, especially those in developed areas. Sure, we desperately need lawmakers and state agencies to address agricultural pollution, and the Florida Springs Council is focused on getting this done. BUT, skipping the fertilizer is the simplest action we can all take at home to protect Florida's waterways from the slimy water crisis we're in 🥴⁠

Protect Florida freshwater springs!

Read this! Humorously biased in terms of anti-DeSantis spirit, but highly informative: 8 years since our state Legislature signed law to urgently protect springs by limiting water withdrawal permits. DEP has yet to define those limits. Consider that- in the span of a maximum presidential term, no protection have been implemented. What a failure of duty! Since 2020, another 22 permits approved and 16 renewed by DEP despite evidence from the Springs Institute that water flow is diminishing. “Citizens Arrest!” Is indeed needed for our DEP and those beverage businesses who underpay - yet profit wildly- from OUR shared natural resources. Call on your senators, state reps and the DEP to get to work!!!!

For those camping this summer...

Make art with trash. I am proud and delighted to show off this project. My child and I led her scout troop in creating upcycled flower power art for a Girl Scout Camporee cabin decorating contest. 🌎♻️ It sure beats buying new plastic straight-to-landfill decorations. We designed these for disassembly and illuminated them with solar-powered garden lights. I particularly like the butterflies made from broken hair clips and the woven center my daughter made for a dream-catcher flower.
